In addition, theresilient member 4 may have a through mountingslot 43 formed on the mountingportion 41, wherein the supportingmember 2 may penetrate through the mountingslot 43 so as to couple with theresilient member 4. - Each of the
resilient legs 42 may be slightly bent to have a curved or inclined contour when viewed from the side (seeFIG. 3 andFIG. 4 of the drawings). Thus, each of theresilient legs 42 may have anextension portion 421 extended from the mountingportion 41, and aninclined portion 422 inclinedly extended from theextension portion 421 to bias against thedrain regulator 3. Theinclined portion 422 and theextension portion 421 may form a predetermined angle of inclination as viewed from the side, as illustrated inFIG. 2 toFIG. 4 of the drawings. - When the
resilient member 4 is mounted on the supportingmember 2, each of the supportinglegs 42 may possess a predetermined resilient ability for exerting an upward pushing force toward thedrain regulator 3. In this preferred embodiment, thedrain regulator 3 may movably couple to the supportingmember 2 in such a manner that thedrain regulator 3 may move along a longitudinal direction of the supportingmember 2. However, this movement may be controlled or limited by the upward pushing force exerted by theresilient legs 42. - Note that the number of
resilient legs 42 maty vary depending on the circumstances in which the present invention is manufactured or used. Some exemplary configurations may be illustrated inFIG. 5A toFIG. 5D of the drawings. As shown inFIG. 5A of the drawings, the mountingportion 41 may have ring-shaped cross section as viewed from the top, wherein theresilient member 4 may have tworesilient legs 42 extended from the mountingportion 41 in two opposite directions respectively. As another example, as shown inFIG. 5B of the drawings, theresilient member 4 may have threeresilient legs 42 radially extended from the mountingportion 41, wherein each tworesilient legs 42 may have an angle of inclination of approximately 120°. - As another example, as shown in
FIG. 5C of the drawings, theresilient member 4 may have fourresilient legs 42 radially extended from the mountingportion 41, wherein each tworesilient legs 42 may have an angle of inclination of approximately 90°. As another example, as shown inFIG. 5D of the drawings, theresilient member 4 may have fiveresilient legs 42 radially extended from the mountingportion 41, wherein each tworesilient legs 42 may have an angle of inclination of approximately 72°. - The
odor prevention arrangement 20 may further comprise a locking member 5 securely mounted on abottom end portion 21 of the supportingmember 21, wherein the mountingportion 41 of theresilient member 4 may be mounted on the supportingmember 2 at a position between thedrain regulator 3 and the locking member 5. Specifically, as shown inFIG. 2 of the drawings, thebottom end portion 21 of the supporting member may be threaded while the locking member 5 may be threadedly connected to thebottom end portion 21 of the supportingmember 2 so as to securely connect thereto. The goal is to limit the position of theresilient member 4 in a stable manner so that it may exert a sufficient urging force toward thedrain regulator 3 without causing structural insecurity of the sink strainer basket. - The operation of the present invention is as follows: under normal condition, the
resilient legs 42 of theresilient member 4 may be arranged to bias against thedrain regulator 3 so as to exert an upward urging force thereto. Thedrain regulator 3 may be forced to cover thedrainage openings 12. When tap water flows into the sink 30 (for dish washing purpose for example), sewage may eventually flow throughdrainage cavity 11 and thedrainage openings 12. The flow of sewage creates a pressure on thedrain regulator 3 which may overcome the resilient force exerting on the other side of thedrain regulator 3. When this happens, thedrain regulator 3 may be pushed to move downwardly along the a longitudinal direction of the supportingmember 2 in the sink drainage hole 301 so as to unblock thedrainage openings 12 and the sewage may be allowed to pass through the clearance formed between thedrain regulator 3 and thestrainer body 10, as shown inFIG. 4 of the drawings. This allows drainage of the sewage through the sink drainage hole 301. - When sewage stops flowing through the sink strainer basket, the pressure exerted by the flowing sewage ceases to exist and the
drain regulator 3 may be pushed by theresilient member 4 and move upwardly along a longitudinal direction of the supportingmember 2 so as to return to its normal position, that is, to substantially cover thedrainage openings 12 of thestrainer body 10. This prevent undesirable odor from spreading to the indoor space in which the sink 30 and the sink strainer basket is located. - The present invention, while illustrated and described in terms of a preferred embodiment and several alternatives, is not limited to the particular description contained in this specification. Additional alternative or equivalent components could also be used to practice the present invention.
