IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE SHOW-SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,329, dated April 2, 1872.
.Specification describing a new and Improved Portable Show-Seat, invented by DAVID 0. PRICE, of St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota.
My invention has for its object to provide an improved arrangement of seats for use in circus, menageries, and other shows, the same being constructed with a view to the comfort of the spectator, while possessing the necessary qualities of security when erected, and compactness when packed for transportation. To this end I construct the detachable seats and their supports as hereinafter described. It also consists in an arrangement for securing the boards on the supports.
Figure 1. is a partial front elevation of my improved seats. Fig. 2 is a section. Fig. 3 represents the manner of packing the seats.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Arepresents the seat-bottoms; B, the slotted cleats on the bottoms; and G, the board heretofore used for the seat, but in my arrangement becoming the seat-support only, by having the seats A put on by putting the end of the said board 0 through the slots ofthe cleats, and shovin g them along from the end to therequiredpositions. The backs D, which are fixed detachably to the seats, will rest against the next board E, above the seats, the latter being placed on each alternate board only, so that the intervening boards may be. utilized for foot-rests, and also to support the backs D. To insure the boards 0 from being displaced on the notched supports F, I have zigzagshaped bars G fitted on over them, said bars being secured at the upper ends in any suitable way, and at the lower ends terminating in an eye, J, through which a stake, K, is driven into the ground to hold the seat-supports at the foot, and at the ends and around the top and back I arrange a rail, H.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The improvement in show seats, consisting of the supports F, straps or bars G, boards 0 and E, and chairs A D, constructed and arranged as herein shown and described.
2. The chair seats A, provided with slots or recesses a in their upper sides, as described, for the purpose specified.
3. The arrangement of the seats A with the boards 0 and E, as specified, whereby each alternate board forms a support for the feet of the spectators in one row and the backs of the chairs in the next row of seats, as specified.
4. The combination, with the boards 0 E and supports F, of the binding-bars G and stakes K, substantially as specified.
