Applicltion led Aurait 18, 1917. Serial No. 136,003'.
y To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL; Ecinrairr, a citizen of the United States, residin at North Bend, in the county of Dodge, tate of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same..
This invention relates to an 1m royed button or fastener for garments and e like, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide an improved button or fastener constructed from asingle length of spring wire and having prongs to permanently or detachably connect the button or fastener to itfis to be observed that the:
one side of the garment, andlv rovided with a head to engage a button ho e opening of the other side of the garment.
A further object of the invention 1s to rovide a simple, and eicient fastener or utton having iiiiproved'and practical .feature of construction, and which may be manufactured for a small cost and sold at a reasonable profit. r
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling lwithin the scope f what .is claimed.- p
The invention comprises further features and combinat-ion of parts as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.
4In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in perspective Vof the improved button or fastener constructed in accordance with the invention. l
Fig. 2 is a sectional vieyv Online 2-2 of Fig. 1, showing the opposite sides or yportions ofthe'garment in section. l
Fig. 3 is a plan view'of the button or fastener.
Referring more especiall to thedrawings, utton or fastener is constructed from asingle length 4of s ring wire turned or bent circular on itsel substantially midway its end, to form a circular orlring shaped button or fastener head 2. The portions ofthe end parts of the wire at one side of circular A or ring shaped head are bent as shown at-3, and the parts 4 of the wire be Vond the; bends 3 are extended inwardly ra4 ially of the head 2 of-the button or fastener, thereby formingJ` guards. The opposite end portions'of the wire beyond the parts tare bent u. on'them'selves as shown at 5, andbeyond' e bends 5, theend portions a ring shapedhead, sai
orriii of the wire are extended radially outwardlyl thereby forming additional ard 6. These ards are disposed on a p ane offset from t e plane of head or circular r' 2. The end portions of the wire beyonduthe guards 6 are bent as shown at 7, and then mer into the prongs 8, which have their terminals 9 pointed or sharpened. ,The bends 5 andthe iards 4 are disposed close together, in fact t ey firmly contact and are designedto reinain in contact. However, the guards 4 are 1`n parallelism to each other, as shown in plan view of Fig. 3. The guards beyond the bends .5 are arranged V-shaped, as shown in plan view in Fig. 3 while theronge 8 are likewise arranged -shaped re ative to each other. In using the button or fastener the prongs 8 are brought together, and their sharpened ends are passed or inserted through one side 10 of a garment, as shown at 11 until the openn in the garment will engage the bends 7, fen the prongs 8 are allowed to spring apart so as to securely connect the fastener or utton to the garment. If need be the prongs 8 may be reinserted throutgh the part 10 of the garment, and returne throu h the garment and bent in order to render t e fastener secured more permanently. The other side 12 of the garment is provided 'with a button hole 13, throughwh'ich the circular head or r' 2 may be inserted, until the end 14 of the button hole engages oi: contacts with the bends 5 of the fastener, whereby the circular head may ' irection or the other and consequently detaching the garment. Since one end 14 of tliefbutton hole 13 engages the inner of' the bends 5, the part 12 of the `is prevented from moving in the 5:51 of the arrow.
of the fastener may engage on the' part 12 of the garment, and
parts ent aiment. It isto be.`
The invention having been set forth what is'claimed asnew and use isz- 1. A button being constructed from a single lengthof spring wire, curved-or turned` its ends to form head at one side circular on itself midwa havin the wire bent to form guards extending su stantially radially toward and adjacent the center of the head, said guards at the center of lthe head being bent to form additional uards offset, from the first guard, Said secon ards extending radially and arranged V-s aped, said second guards hav ing their wire portions bent upon themselves, and beyond said last bend, said Wire portions terminating in yeldable prongs arranged vfshaped to each other and having their extremities sharpened.
2. A button being constructed from a single length of spring wire curved or turned DANIEL ECKHART.
