Description

DAVID Formia/IAN.Y
Hames'.
No. 125,278: Pafmd April 2,11872,
y Fa'gif PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID FOREMAN, OF MILTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAMES FOR HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,278, dated April 2, 1872.
To all whom-it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID FOREMAN, of Milton, in the county of Pike and State of Illinois, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Hames for Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the con struction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a partial vertical longitudinal section of my hame. Fig. 2 is a detailed view of the eyebolt.
This invention has relation to hames for harness; and the novelty consistsin providing the haine with a number of staples holding a movable draft-pin which secures the trace. The object of this invention is to allow the draft to be raised or lowered, as desired.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a hame of the ordinary kind. B represents four sta-ples or ring-bolts inserted through the haine, and clinched on their inner ends, or secured by bolts. C represents a curved pin,
which passes through these staples holding the trace-ring D and trace E. This pin is secured by means of a key or, if preferable, a nut at its lower end, and can be taken out and replaced at pleasure. To change the draft of the trace it is only necessary to remove the pin and place the trace-ring between any two of the staples so that it rests on the lower. The staples or ring-bolts are separate and distinct, so that if one breaks it is not necessary to procure an entire new set. y
I am well aware that it is not nersT to pro vide notches for the adjustment of the trace; hence I do not claim such broadly; but- I claim as my invention- The hame A having the staples or rin gbolts B and pin o, arranged for the adjustment of the trace, as described, when said staples are separate and distinct devices, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
DAVID FOREMAN.
Witnesses:
BENJAMIN DARNEY, ADAM MILLER.
