Description

L. A. BUCHTEL. PAPER DOLL DISPLAY BOARD.
APRUCATION FILED 1AN.1I.1 915.
Patented Jan. 8,1918.
.LUISE ADELHEID BUCHTEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PAPER-IDOLL-DISPLAY BOARD.
Speazification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 8, EMS.
Application filed January 11, 1915. Serial No. 1,634.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LUISE A. BUCHTEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, ,has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Doll-Display Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in a display board adapted especially for use by children in mounting and holding paper dolls and other objects in upright position.
As is well known, young children derive considerable pleasure and amusement from cutting out pictures of dolls and other objects from journals, magazines, newspapers and the like, but usually experience difficulty in providing means tomake the cutout figures stand in upright position so that they will be displayed to the best poss ble advantage, for owing to the flimsy, flexible nature of the paper it is difficult to cut out the figures and make them stand upright without destroying the appearance of the same.
In the present instance it is my purpose to provide a display board by means of which child may mount and support the cut out pictures or figures so that such figures will be displayed to the best advantage and without bending or folding the same.
Still a further object of my invention is to provide a holder of this type which will embody the desired features of simplicity, efficiency and convenience, and which embodying as it does, but relatively few parts, be manufactured and marketed at a comparatively low cost.
lVith the above recited objects and others of a similar nature in view, my invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in and falling within the scope of the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front view of a board embodying my invention and showing the manner of mounting the cut out figures thereon.
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the letter A indicates the board proper which is preferably made of card or pasteboard, although it will be understood that it maybe made of any suitable material, such as stifi paper, wood, metal or the like. To the back of this board is hinged a prop or supporting memberB which is also preferably made of card board, and the hinge wh ch is shown at C is preferably made of cloth or fabric pasted to the back of the board A adjacent the top thereof, and to the back of the supporting member B at the top of the latter so tnat the support may be readily folded down against the board when the latter is not in use, or may be readily swung to supporting position when desired. In the present instance this supporting member is in the'nature of a stiff sheet of card board which is almost as long and as wide as the display board A, but it will be readily understood that this supporting member may be in the form of a card bo rd leg or the like, of sufficient width and stiffness to properly support the board A in upright position, and that further this supporting member may be hinged to the back of the board A in any suitable manner. in order to support the cut out figures at the front of the board I prov de a ribbon, cord or the like, indicated at G which extends longitudinally across the front of the board in spaced parallel strands or sections. In the present instance this ribbon C is a continuous or single ribbon, one end of which is fastened as at 1 to the back of the board A adjacent the top thereof. the ribbon being then passed back and forth across the front of the board and reeved through the vertical rows of apertures l adjacent the side edges of the board to form the parallel spaced strands 2, the ribbon being drawn also through loops 3 carried by the supporting member B, so that the outwardly swinging movement of the supporting member relative to the board A will be limited, as shown in Fig. 2. The tail end of the ribbon is fas ened to the back of the board A adjacent the lower end thereof and at the opposite side of the end 1 of the ribbon, this tail end being indicated at 5.
The letter D indicates a paper doll, such as might be cut out from a magazine, ournal or the like, and to the back of the figure is pasted a paper tab E which is adapted to be hooked over one of the longitudinal strands of ribbon running across the front of the board, when it is desired to support the figure on the board as shown in the drawings. These tabs or paper hooks may be made by the child and pasted to the back of the cut out figure, and the object is then hooked over and suspended from oneof'the lines or strands of. ribbon in the manner readily understood.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of employing my invention will be readily apparent. It
will be noted that the whole device comprises simply a board with a swinging supporting member therefor and a continuous ribbon which not only provides lines or strands across the front of the board for supporting the figures, but also provides means at the back of the board for limiting the out- Ward swinging movement of the supporting member.
What I claim is:
A device of the character described comprising a substantially rectangular board the ends of which are provided with inwardly projecting slits, the slits in one end being disposedoppositely to the slits in the opposite end, a supporting member hinged to the rear'face of the board, a single strand of ribbon threaded through the inner ends of the slots with a resultant plurality of spaced longitudinal and parallel supporting members extending longitudinally of one side of the board, and a plurality of relatively shorter vertically extending portions at each endof the board parallel with the .end edges and at the opposite side thereof from said longitudinal portions, and means secured to one of the Vertical extensions on Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
