CALENDAR,
APPLICATION flLED same. 1916.

7 '0 all w hjom it may "concern Be it known' that 11, BFOQK-SYKEs, the city of'Toront0,"in"tl1e county of Yorkifinr the Province of "Ontario, in the Dominion of'Canada, havefinvented certainl'new and useful Improvements ln' Galendars, and do herebydeclarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description of sameo j This invention relates to calendars adapted to forman attachment for a telephone for the convenience oftelephone users and has therefore for its object to provide an article of utility of thistype which maybe readily attached to the usual kind oftelcph'on'ewhile" being capable of use as a walllorgeneral calendar ifso desired, i l
, Further object's are to provide simple and etficient means foreffecting the securing of i the calendar agalnst, inadvertent displace ment when positioned upon a telephone.
Still further objects subsidiary to or resulting from the abbve objectsor from the con; struction of the calendar as hereinafter de-' scribed will become apparent as the invention is further disclosed.
In carrying the invention into effect I prefer to employ a rotary date disk suitably inscribed and divided into the various months, said disk being located and supported within an outer casing and provided with a central orifice registering with a central orifice in said casing, these orifices being of sufficient size to permit the entering thereinto of the mouthpiece of the telephone when said calendar is positioned upon saidphone and means being preferably provided in proximity to said orifice, to resiliently grip said mouthpiece for the purpose of preventing the rotation of said casing about said mouthpiece. Further means may also be employed to secure the said casing against moving in forward direction above the said mouthpiece if thought necessary or desirable; all of which is more particularly described in and by the following specification, having reference to the accompanying drawing in which n i t w a We ile n iar jerscan thaniEig. 1;
Similar, character of reference indicate similarj oarts in the several figuresofthe drawing."
Infthe example illustrated is theitrans' mitter' casing of "desk" telephone having the usual 2 and, carrying ftlie detachable mouth-piece 3 in the manner well known.
As an article "of utilit'y itis proposed to apply apnendar, preferably of; that type Figs; 2 and 3 aredrawn to a somewhat.
'k'i ownas a rbtary-calendargto th'e'said transmitter-casing" whereby said calendar or the 1 parts associatedjwith said calendar will be disposed around the said mouthpiece and so 7 .;l atented Jan.;1,1918. a licat onfiieasg t aitra,le s. seriaiim ussoa be in a convenient position for reference when the telephone "is in use and also by virtiie of -tli e'fa'ct that a telephone is generally.
located in a'jrea dily accessible position.
.i-a'na 5a're front and rear plates forming l iv a a in i cles ns a rot y da e dislrhaving the several'months or other m formation printed or otherwise inscribed thereon, the said front plate 4 of the casing 4, 5 being suitably orificedas at 7 to permit the viewing of such portion of said disk 6 as a may register with the said orifice 7, the said disk being capable of rotation to bring va rious portions of its surface into juXta-position with said orifice 7.
The casing 4, 5 and the disk 6 are centrally orificed, said orifice being of suflicient diameter to admit of the passing therethrough of the smaller end of the saidtelephone mouthpiece, so that when the calendar is located upon a telephone,-as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawing, the smaller end of said mouthpiece 3 in proximity to the transmitter casing 1 will be accommodated within the said centralorifice of said calendar.
It is desirable, but not absolutely necessary, that the said central orifice shall be of a size in proportion. to the size of said mouthpiece whereby the same, when in position will frictionally abut against the tubular wall or bushing 8 surrounding said orifice as a preventive against accidental rotary displacing of'the casing of said calendar.
To facilitate the accommodation of the size of said orifice to any slight variation in the diametrical size of different mouthpieces it may be preferable to make the said wall inclosing said orifice resilient, such as by thev tapering of said wall toward the rear endthereof and providing the same with slots or incisions 9 to permit the expansion of said tubular wall when a mouthpiece of sufficient diameter is inserted therein. The additional compressive effort, in this case, of the resilient tubular wall of said central orifice also locks the said outer casing 4, 5 of the calendar against inadvertent rotation upon the telephone.
Where the transmitter casing l is provided with a rim 2 as shown in the drawings, peripheral clips 10 may be resorted to as a means or as an additional means of securing thecasing 4:, 5 of the calendar to the'telephone, these clips being preferably integral with one or other of the component parts of the said calendar casing and extending. rearwardly and inwardly to an extent adapting them to engage with the said rim 2 and thereby preventmovement of the said calendar away from the face of the said transmitter casing, the said clips also having a radial resiliency whereby they willcontract upon the said rim to an extent sufficient to prevent any undesirable rotary movement of said calendar casing.
11 is a slot in the lower edge of the calendar casing to permit access to the disk 6 for the purpose of adjusting the same.
12 is a ring by which the calendar may Copies of thispatent maybe obtained for be suspended from a hook upon a wall or the like, if it be desired to use it in this manner.
This invention may be developed under the scope of the following claims without departing from the essential feature of the invention and it is desired that the specification and drawings be read'as merely illus- 2. A device of theclass described, comprising a centrally orificed disk, a casing inclosing said disk, and a bushing on the front part of said casing, said bushing ex-f tending rearwardly through the said central orifice insaid disk, and through the back of said casing for the purposes specified, said bushing also being of an expanding nature. p r r Signed at the city of.
