NECKWEAR ATTACHMENT DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, XVILLIAM J AMES Mo- DONAGH, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Crane street, Concord, in the State of New South Vales, Commonwealth of Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in N eckwear Attachment Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices adapted for wear with turn-over or double collars and on which a tie or how may be fastened, so that it is unnecessary to pass the article of neckwear around the collar, and specifically to such devices made of wire.

The object of the invention is to efiect certain improvements in neckwear attachments made of wire whereby a fastener is produced adapted to fit any collar and exerting an active pressure on the collar-stud vertically and sidewise so that the attachment is held securely and is more easily placed in position. And these improvements consist in forming a frame of light spring wire having a substantially horizontal member at the top deflected downwardly and forwardly to form a seat for the tie or how, laterally extending wings adapted to be inserted between the folds of the collar, the ends of the wire from the said wings being returned, crossed and bent to form an expansible spring loop adapted to engage the collarstud and the extreme ends being brought together and mutually fastened by any suitable clipping device or means either ornamental or plain and serving as a finger grip for the manipulation of the attachment device; the construction being such that the said wings being inserted between the folds of a collar and bearing against the inside of the upper edge thereof, upward pressure on the clipping device diminishes the vertical height of the attachment device and at the same time expands the s ring loop laterally so that it may be passed reely over the head of the collar stud, and upon release of the clip the inherent springiness of the wire effects downward and sidewise pressure on the stud shank.

according to this invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view of the attachment device by itself and Fig. 2 a section thereof with tie (shown in dotted lines) afiixed;

In constructing the attachment device a piece of spring wire is bent to the form illustrated in the drawings, having centrally at the top a downwardly and forwardly projecting portion 7 forming a seat for the tie 8 or bow 9, and wings 10 10, the ends of the wire being returned to the vertical center line and crossed at 11, bent downwardly in opposing curves as at 12, 12, to form a spring loop 13 and the extreme ends being secured to a clipping device 14 by solder or by other known suitable means such as closure by pressure of a double headed stud of malleable material gripping the two said ends between the heads; as a further alternative the extreme ends may be twisted together.

A tie as 8 is knotted around the seat 7 in any appropriate manner, and a bow such as 9 is stitched to the attachment device as shown in Fig. 6.

In adjusting the attachment device the clip 14 is grapsed by the fingers and the wings 10, 10, slipped under the outer folds of the collar 15 until the said wings contact with the inside of the top edge of said collar. Continued upward pressure causes the crossing point 11 to approach the seat bar '7 and at the same time bends the portions 12. 12. outwardly and widens the loop 13 so that it may pass readily over the head of the collar stud 16 as in Fig. 3.
