To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMRECH KAvnoANsKY,
a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Mangles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clothes mangles.
An object of the device is to provide a mangle having pairs of smoothing rolls ar ranged with individual tensioning means while a master tensionino' means is arran ed for simultaneously tensioning therolls in a uniform manner. a

Referring more in detail to the drawing a base plate is arranged having opposite end walls 11 in which the lower rolls 12 and 13 of vertical pairs of mangle rolls are journaled, gears 14 and 15 being arranged upon adjacent ends of the said rolls 12 and 13 respectively. An idler pinion 16 is mounted on a stub shaft 17 carried by the wall 11 and is in constant mesh with the gears 14 and 15 while a relatively larger power gear 18 in mesh with the pinion 16 is secured to a shaft 19 journaled through the walls 11 and is provided with a turn wheel 20 upon its opposite end having a crank handle 21.
Pressure rolls 12 and 13 are provided above and for cooperation with the aforementioned rolls 12 and 13 respectively, the pressure rolls being journaled in blocks 22 slidably arranged in vertical slots 23 in theend walls 11. Upright screws 2% are carried by the blocks 22 having follower strips 25 slidably mounted upon the said screws in parallel relations above the rolls 12' and 13' while the springs 26 encircle the screws 24 and are arranged between the blocks 22 and the strip 25. Adjusting nuts 27 are threaded upon the upper ends of the screws 24 whereby the springs 26 may be separately tensioned with respect to the ends of the pressure rolls. I
The strips 25 are formed of resilient material such as wood and are connected to-'- gether centrally by a yoke 28 the same having a screw 29 freely extending centrally through the same with its lower end secured to a longitudinal beam 30 arranged between the end walls 11 adjacent the tops thereof. A spring 31 is arranged between the yoke 28 and the beam 30 while a regulating nut 32 is threaded upon the screw 29 and whereby as will be evident, a turning of the nut 32 will forcibly lower the'yoke 28, depressing the spring 31 as well as the strips 25 and exerting an even pressure upon the spring 26 for resiliently maintaining the pressure rollers 12 and 13 in desired relations with respect to the bottom rolls 12 and 13.
A swinging table 33 is pivoted between the ends 11 at the inlet side of the device the same being provided with a leg 3i for normally resting upon the base 10 when the table is operatively positioned, said table being capable of swinging upwardly and inwardly when not in use as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3. Similarly, a swinging leaf 35 is provided at the outlet side ofthe device for receiving the outgoing goods, this leaf being inwardly foldable when not in use as also shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3. An apron 36 is arranged over the lower roll 13 and also over a rodST journaled between the end walls 11 the arrangement being such that the goods to be operated upon such as the fabric 38 shown in Fig. 4 will be fed to the pair of rolls 12, 12 in a plane slightly above the space therebetween. By means of this arrangement the fabric is grasped by the rolls in a smooth condition and without being permitted to wrinkle or overlap as sometimes occurs when the horizontal portion of the feeding apron lies in or below the plane of the top of the lower receiving roll. The operation of the device will be apparent from this detailed description thereof, it being noted that upon turning the wheel 20 by means of the handle 21 the lower rollers 12 and 13 are revolved in the same direction, carrying the horizontal portion of the apron 36 away from the table 33 and toward the leaf 35 so that the introduction of the fabric 38 upon the apron 36 at a pointadjacent the table 33 presses the fabric between the roll 13 and the apron 36 and.

What I claim as new is '-1. A clothes-mangle, including spaced apart pairs of smoothing rollers, those of each pair being superposed one with relation to the other, the upper rollers of the pairs having their shaftdoearings vertically movable, said bearings having upwardly extended screw-threaded and nut-equipped stems, springs applied to said stems and adapted to exert pressure upon said roller-shaft bearings, follower-strips applied to said stems and bearing upon said springs, a yoke secured to the follower-strips about centrally thereof, and means for applying pressure through said yoke to said followerstrips.

A clothes-mangle including spacedapart pairs of smoothing rollers, those of each pair being superposed one with relation to the other, the upper rollers of the pairs having their shaft bearings vertically movable, said bearings having upwardly extended screw-threaded and nut-equipped stems, springs applied to said stems and adapted to exert pressure upon said roller-shaft bearings, follower-strips applied to said stems and bearing upon said springs, a yoke secured to the follower-strips about centrally thereof, a second stem having one end fixed and extending freely through said yoke and having applied thereto a spring intermedi ate said yoke and the point of fixture of said stem.
