proved Vest, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to chest protectors,
bandages or the like and has particular reference to an improved construction of protecting means adapted especially to prevent congestion of the lungs or pneumonia or the recurrence of such a malady.
Among the objects of the invention is to provide a sort of garment or bandage adapted to be worn around the chest somewhat in the nature of a vest or jacket, the same being provided with one or more plies of material including a ply of material impervious to air or water.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the nature set forth adapted to be worn by an individual of either sex and of any age.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein, still for the purpose of illustrating a practical embodiment thereof reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a vest made in accordance with this invention, indicating a preferred embodiment thereof, a portion of the front being shown broken away to disclose hidden parts: and

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, I show a vest or bandage having front panels 10 and 11 and a back 12. Any

and these two parts are stitched .or quilted together as indicated at 17.
On the outside of the layer or ply of padding is arranged a waterproof and airtight imperforate ply or strip of oil silk or its equivalent, asindicated at 18. This ply of material is very soft and pliable,,of minimum weight and yet serves to prevent the passage of cold air or the like through the bandage or protector, andserves therefore as the main element of the device protecting the patient from danger of recurrence of neumonia. The ply of oil silk 18 is ooextensive with the plies first mentioned and may in some instances constitute the outermost ply of the devlce. to be worn as an outer garment, however,
the vest is preferably provided with a fabric finishing ply 19 of any suitable cloth having a dressy appearance. The edge portions of the device may be bound, stitched, or'otherwise so secured that all of the plies described will be maintained in proper relationship. Likewise any suitable fastening devices such as loops 20 and buttons 21 may be provided to secure the otherwise Open portion'of the vest together.
I claim: I
The herein described vest comprising an outer ply of cloth, a ply of fibrous padding, a ply of lining on one side of the padding, the plies of padding and lining being permanently stitched or quilted together, and a ply of oil silk secured upon the outer side of the padding betweenit and the ply of cloth.
