The device embodying the present invention includes a back rest in the nature of a transversely curved frame having a bottom member 1 and a top 2, and side members 3, filler bars 4 being arranged within the frame to extend substantially vertically. To provide for the connection of the arm rests which will presently be specifically described, with the side members 3 of the back rest, the bottom member 1 has its ends ex tended forwardly beyond the said side members 3, as indicated by the numeral 5 and each side member is provided a suitable distance above its lower end with a forwardly extending projection 6.

In' order that the arm rests may afford a maximum supporting area upon which the invalid may rest his arms or upon which trays or books may be conveniently placed and firmly supported, a table 19 is hinged at one edge as at 20 to the rail 10 of the frame 7 of each arm rest and when the device is in use, may be swun to position resting adjacent its opposite e ge upon the rail 10 of the frame 8 of the said arm rest. is a pad 23 which is, designed to be disposed against the head-board of the bed in which the device is positioned in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. IVhen the brace is in the position shown in Fig. 1, it will firmly support the back rest in upright position and the invalid may rest against the said back rest without any fear of the same collapsing or becomingdisplaced. In order to support the brace 21 in the position shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings and positively insure against dropping of the brace, a supporting standard 2% is hinged at its upper end as. at 25 to the brace near the rear end thereof and is designed to rest at its lower end upon the surface of the bed as shown in Fig. 1 of thedrawings.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a device of the class described, a back rest, an arm rest foldably connected Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,

with one side of the back rest to swing laterallyrelative to the back rest, the said arm rest comprising foldably connected frame members relatively movable in a horizontal plane, and a table extending longitudinally of the arm rest and hinged thereto to swing in a vertical plane.

2. In a device of the class described, a back rest, an arm rest including a frame connected with the back rest at one side thereof, a membermounted in the frame for turning movement, a second frame, a member mounted in the second frame for turningmovement, rigid means connecting the said turningv members, and a table arranged to spanand be supported by the said frames.

3. In a device of the class described, a

back rest, a frame including upper andlower members hingedly connected with the back rest at one side thereof, frame bars connecting the first-mentioned members, one

of said frame bars being arranged for turning movement, a second frame including upper and lower members and bars connecting the same, one of which bars is arranged for turning movement, means connecting the turning bars of the two frames whereby the second-mentioned frame may be moved to position lying against the first-mentioned frame and to position spaced therefrom, and a table leaf hingedly connected with the upper member ofthe first-mentionedframe and movable to rest at its free side upon the upper member of the second-mentioned frame and to position lying against the side of the first-mentioned frame.
