BREATH-GUARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. ii, ioiv.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, SILAS L. GLAnIsH and JAMES T. DE ARMOND, citizens of the United States, residing at Osceola, in the county of Mississippi and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breatl1-Guarcls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to breath guards and has as its object to provide a device of this class which may be readily applied and removed and which in use will not prove uncomfortable to the wearer. The primary aim of the invention is'to provide a device of this class which will be entirely sanitary and will not interfere with respiration although eflectually guarding against the inhalation of anothers breath,the device being especially designed for use by barbers, physicians, dentists, etc.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough on the line .22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2. r
The device embodying the present invention includes a body member which is indicated in general by the numeral 1, the said member being preferably formed from glass although any other suitable material may be employed. In marginal contour the body 1 is reniform, the body being preferably continuously and uniformly curved from its upper to its lower edge. The lower edge of the body, indicated by the numeral 2, is
convex, and the upper edge, indicated by the numeral 3, is concave throughout its in termediate portion although toward the ends of the body this edge is conveXed, as at 4, to merge with the ends of the convex edge 2. When the device is in use the lower edge thereof will rest upon the upper lip of the wearer and the end of the nose will be recopies or this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the ceived within the and in order that the device may be held in place, means is provided which will now be described.
The attaching means above referred to is in the nature of a clip, the same comprising an intermediate or attaching portion, indicated by the numeral 5 and spaced side or gripping portions, indicated by the numeral A screw or other suitable fastening element 7 is secured through the attaching portion 5 and the central portion of the body L It is preferable that the gripping portions 6 be tapered in the direction of their free ends and the said ends of the said portions 6 are turned back upon themselves and against the inner faces of the respective portions 6 to form knobs or buttons 8 which may engage firmly against the opposite.
sides of the partition wall of the nose without, however, causing inconvenience or injury such as would be likely to result if sharp edges were present. By reference to the drawings it will be observed that theattaching clip is secured to the rear or concave face of the body member 1. 1
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a device of the class described, a body member of substantially reniform marginal contour, the said body member being con tinuously outwardly curved from its upper to its lower edge, the marginal contour of the body defining, at the upper edge of the said body, spaced lobes and an intermediate recess, and an attaching means comprising a clip and a connecting attaching portion secured to the concave inner face of the guard member below the recess in the upper edge thereof and having spaced engaging portions.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
