a m w a a I ANSELMO SIMONCELLI, OF BUTTE, IVLGNTANA.
SELF-LEVELING- TABLE.
Application filed April 1'7, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANsEL o SIMoNoELLr, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Butte, in the county of Silverbow and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Leveling Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful. improvements in self-leveling tables.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a table structure adaptable for use upon shipboard arranged for automatically maintaining the top of the table horizontally positioned regardless of the rolling and tossing of the ship under varying weather conditions.
A further object of the device is the provision of a table having the top arranged normally horizontal, provision being made for anti-frictionally mounting the table top in a resilient manner for purposes of equalizing while the top may also be maintained stationary when found desirable.
WVith these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described. illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.
In the drawin formin a art of this application and in which like designating characters refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the device.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View taken upon line IIII of Fig. 1, with two of the positioning members in their locked arrangement.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view taken upon line III-I1I of Fig. 2, and,
Fig. 4c is a horizontal sectional view taken upon line IVIV of Fig. 3.
The preferred embodiment of the invention mainly consists of a rectangular frame 10 having squared corner posts or legs 11 upon the tops of which posts a table top 12 is resiliently mounted by means of springs 13 while a conical weight 14; is connected beneath the table top by diametrically arranged chains 15 having their upper ends attached as at 16 to the said top 12.
A depending side rail 17 is carried by the top 12 inclosing the upper portion of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. a, 1217.
Serial No. 162,594.
The springs 13 are anti-frictiona'lly journaled between the posts 11 and the table top 12, each of the said springs having a positioning cap 21 at each end thereof mounted upon balls 22 carried by plates 23 and arranged with retaining rings 2 1 overlying the said caps and attached to the posts 11 and top 12 by means of screws 25.
It will be seen that the side tipping or inclination of the springs 13 allows the caps 21 to slightly revolve within the said ball bearing members whereby a more perfect maintenance of equilibrium is rendered possible than with rigidly anchored springmounting members.
A serviceable table for ships is arranged in which the top 12 is normally maintained horizontal, the action of the positioning weight 1 1 being easily and quickly accomplished while by means of the locking levers 18, the top may be rigidly secured when desired.
What I claim as new is:-
1. A ships table comprising a frame, a top arranged thereabove, resilient supporting connections between the said frame and top antifrictionally journaled to said frame and top, and a counter-balancing weight suspended from said top.
2. A device of the class described comprising a frame having corner legs, a top positioned above the said legs, bearing lates carried by the tops of said legs and by opposite portions of the said top, mounting caps anti-frictionally supported upon the said plates, helical springs secured between the said caps, and a centrally depending posi-' carried by the tops of said legs and by opposite portions of the said top, mounting caps anti-frictionally supported upon the said plates, helical springs secured between the said caps, a centrally depending positioning Weight attached to the said top, a depending portion carried by said top surrounding the said springs and the upper portion of the frame, the said legs having reeeiving notches adjacent their upper ends, and looking levers pivoted to the lower edge of said depending top portion adapted for seating Within the said notches when the top is in its stationary position.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
