HERBERT C. HAWLEY, 0F HARLWTON, MONTANA.
LABEL-CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. d, 1917..
Application led. August 2, 1915. Serial No. 43,216.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HERBERT C. HAWLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harlowton, in the` county of Meagher and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Label-Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to label cabinets for containing druggists7 and other labels.
The invention has for its object to produce a simple and improved label cabinet having` compartments from which the labels may be conveniently removed, one by one, to the very last, the construction being such as to enable the labels that are to be removed to be fully exposed.
A further object of the invention is to produce a label cabinet having compartments provided with a tiltable bottom member which may be tilted by pressure of a finger to raise the front edge of the top label in such compartment above the top edge of the compartment, where said label may be readily grasped and removed.
A further object of the invention is to produce a cabinet having compartments each provided with a tiltable spring-actuated bottom-member which after a label has been removed will be automatically restored to its initial position.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modications may be made within the scope of the claim.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a portion of a cabinet showing several compartments side by side.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View taken longitudinally through one compartment on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken l on the line 3 3 in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view similar to Fig. 21 but showing the bottom member of the compartment tilted for the removal of a label. e
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved cabinet comprises a plurality of box-like compartments 15, said compartments being of rectangular shape and of suitable dimensions. ln the drawing, only a few compartments have been shown, the same being arranged side by side in a row, but it is obvious that in the construction of a complete cabinet any desired number of compartments may be used and that the same may be placed in tiers or stacks to provide a cabinet of the desired capacity.
Each compartment, as stated, consistsof a rectangular box or frame, and the side members 16 of such compartment support a stem or shaft 17 extending transversely therethrough and through the side members of the entire row of compartments. Pivotally mounted on the stem 17 in each compartment is a bottom member 18, the same being actuated by the spring 19 whereby the forward end of such bottom member is normally pressed in a downward direction until it engages a stop member or ledge 20, whereby the said bottom member is normally supported in an approximately horizontal position. It will be seen that pressure exerted downwardly upon the rearward portion of the bottom member will serve to depress such rearward portion against the tension of the spring, moving the forward portion of the bottom member upwardly, the parts being so proportioned that the forward end of the bottom member may be moved upwardly above the top edges of the wall members of the compartment1 as best seen in Fig. 4.
ln the operation of this device the compartment or compartments may be filled or partly filled with labels. To enable a label to be conveniently removed the operator places a finger above the rearward portion of the bottom member of the desired compartment, bearing down on the labels contained therein, thereby tilting or rocking the bottom member until the front edge of the top label is exposed above the top edges of the walls of the compartment where it may be readily grasped and withdrawn by the operator. When the downward pressure is interrupted the spring will immediately restore the bottom member of the compartment to its initially approximately horizontal position, when the labels contained therein will be fully protected between the walls of the oompartment.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
` In a label cabinet, a rectangular box or frame, a shaft extending through the side walls thereof, a bottom member pivoted on said shaft7 a ledge secured on the inner face of the front wall of the box and constituting a stop member lying in the path of the forward end of the bottom member to limit downward movement thereof, and a spring whereby the bottom member is actuated to hold its forward end normally in engagement with the stop member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
