Description

J. 0. GILLIS.
FAN.
APPLICATION msn MAR.26. i917.
Patenwd Nov. 271', 1917 JOSPH 0. GILLIS, OF BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA.
FAN'.
Application led March 26, 1917.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that JOSEPH O. GILLIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baton Rouge, in the parish of East Baton Rouge and State of Louisiana, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fans, of which the following is a specication, reference being had to` the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in fans and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character adapted to be associated with a rotatable member, and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character having novel andimproved means whereby the samemay be appliedinto operative position with convenience and facility.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved fan whereby 4certain important advantages are attainedand the device is rendered simpler, less expensive, and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In orderk that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein* Figure l is a View in kelevation illustrating a fan constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2*-2 of Fig. 1.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, W denotes a rotatable member such as Va balance wheel of a sewing machine or the like and with which my improved fan is adapted to co-act.
As herein set forth, my vimproved fan comprises an annular member formed preferably of sheet aluminum, and which has substantially radiating from the periphery thereof the blades 2 arranged on a predetermined pitch so that, when my improved fan is applied to the rotatable member or Specification of Letters Patent.

wheel W, a blast or current of air will be created. It is preferred that the blades 2 be integrally formed with the annular member l.
The annular member l is provided with a plurality of radial slots 3, preferably three in number and equidistantly spaced and in radial alinement with certain of the blades 2.
Disposed through each of the slots 3 is the headed bolt or screw 4, which isV also directed through the central portion of a substantially U-shaped spring clip 5. Co acting with the free end portion of the shank ofthe headed bolt or screw 4c is a wing nut 6, whereby it will be perceived that the clip 5 may be effectively clamped in different positions longitudinally ofthe slot 3, as the requirements of practice may dictate.
As is believed to be self-evident, the clips 5 are adapted to be engaged in the most convenient manner with the rotatable 1nember or wheel WV. It will also be noted that the clips 5 may be rotated or moved axially around the co acting headed bolts or screws a.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a fan constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature, and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and applied, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice eXcept as hereinafter claimed.
I claim:
A fan consisting of an annular member, blades substantially radiating therefrom, said member being provided with slots radially alined with certain of the blades, engaging members, headed members loosely disposed through the engaging members and the slots of the annular member, said engaging members being interposed between In testimony whereofY I hereunto affix my the annular member and the heads of the signa-ture in the presence of two Witnesses. headed members, and clamping members Y JOSEPH O. GILLIS. engageabie with the free end portionsof `Witnesses: f i n 5 the headed members and (zo-acting with the WALLACE'J. LANDRY,
annuler member. P. O, LEBEAN.
