TERRACING-MACHINE.
I Improvements in Terracing-Machines; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in terraoing machines, and has for its object to provide a device of this character constructed in such a manner that farm land can be readily terraced to prevent the soil washing away.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide a machine of this type having means for vertically adjusting either end of the terracing scraper.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a machine of this character so constructed that the scraper can be easily and quickly adjusted into different angular relations to the draft tongue.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 14 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a similar view on line 55 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view on line 7-7 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates the scraper which has fixed thereto the downwardly curved ends 2 of the arcuate bar 3, substantially semi-circular in top plan and formed from angle iron with its vertical web provided with a plurality of spaced notches 4, the purpose of which will appear later.
Mounted centrally of the scraper 1 is a casting 5 having a bearing 6 formed therein for rotatably engaging the spindle 7 formed on the lower end of the block 8. The draft Patented Nov. 27, 191%.

tongue 9 has its rear end provided with furcations 10 which have engaged therebetween the block 8 secured to the furcations in any suitable manner.
The tongue 9 is provided with a transverse recess 11 in which the bar 3 slides, said recess being covered by a boxing 12, the top of which is provided with an opening 13. Mounted on the tongue 9 is a bearing 14 which pivotally supports the spring pressed lever 15 having its forward end provided with a depending catch 16 which operates in the opening 13 and is adapted to engage a selected notch 41 of the bar 3 so as to hold the scraper 1 and tongue 9 in different angular relations.
Mounted adjacent each end of the scraper 1, and upon the rear face thereof are plates 17 provided with vertically spaced flanges 18 for supporting the vertical pins 19. Pivotally connected to the pins 19 are triangular blocks 20 having fixed thereto rack segments 21, and pivotally associated with the rack segments are levers 22 having rotatably supported thereby wheels 23. The levers are provided with spring actuated pawls 241 which are adapted to cooperate with the segments 21 to hold the levers in difl'erent adjusted positions, and thus the wheels 23. By providing the triangular shaped blocks 20, the faces 25 thereof when engaging the plate 17 will limit the swinging movement of said blocks.
When it is desired to terrace land, one of the levers 22 is forced downwardly so as to elevate the end of the scraper 1, while the other end thereof will form the ditch. It will be of course understood that when the machine is used for scraping or grading a road, that the levers are in their raised positions, thereby holding the wheels 23 out of contact with the roadway.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a grader or terracer has been provided which can be conveniently turned when it is desired to reverse the travel thereof, and that the angular relation between the draft tongue and scraper can be easily and quickly adjusted when desired upon manipulation of the lever 15.
Mounted on the tongue 9 is a seat 26 which is so arranged that the drivers feet will be in convenient reach of the lever 15 so that it can be actuated to release the tongue to permit the same to swing to the desired position in respect to the bar 3.v
rear end, a block mounted in said bifurca-- tlon and dependmg below sald tongue, a
casting pivotally connected-to the lower end of said-block; a scraper supported by said casting; an adjustable bar associated with said. tongtueand' having downwardly curved ends secured to said scraper adjacent the ends thereof whereby to adjust said scraper, L ground wheels pivotally connected to said 7. scrapeniand means releasably engaging said J. S} IIADLER, Z. R. Crnzrsrnu r.
