Description

W. TETZLOFF.
ROAD GRADING AND DiTCHING PLOW.
APPLICATION man OCT. a. 1915.
172 l 2 1 Patented. Jan. 16, 1917.
11'": i- 1, itTED @FFTQE ROAD GRADING AND DITCHING- PLOVJ'.
Application filed October 6, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVILHELM TETZLOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at New ltichland, in the county of VVaseca, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Road Grading and Ditching Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in road grading and ditching plows, and has for its object to provide a device of this character constructed in such a manner that the same can be adjusted for digging ditches of different depth.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a plow of this nature constructed in such a manner as to be used for maintaining roadways in proper condition.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the plow. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 8 is a transverse section taken through the forward end of the plow.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates an arched frame, which supports the shaft 2, said shaft being provided centrally with a bearing 4: in which is rotatably journaled the lower end of the threaded shaft 5, said shaft being also journaled in the bight of the frame 1, and has its upper end provided with a four-armed lever 6, which serves to rotate the shaft 5.
The forward end of the plow beam 7 has secured thereto spaced plates 8, both of which are provided with slots 9, and extending longitudinally of the slots are fingers 10, which are adapted to engage the nut 11, said nut being threaded upon the shaft 5 and held against rotation by the fingers 10. Thus it will be seen that upon rotation of the shaft 5 that the plow beam 7 can be raised or lowered to change the pitch of the heel 12, landside 13, and the mold board 14, which has its lower edge connected to the Specification of Letters Patent.

heel 12 and its forward edge to the rear end of the beam 7. A slide bar 15 is provided, and has its forward end connected to the forward end of the heel 12, while the rear end thereof is curved upwardly and connected adjacent the rear end of said heel. A brace bar 16 is provided and has one of its ends connected adjacent the rear end of the landside 13, said bar being passed through a slot 17 formed in the slide bar 15. The other end of the bar 16 is secured adjacent the rear end of the heel 12. The plow is further braced by a bar 18, which has its upper end fixed adjacent the rear end of the mold board 14:, and its lower end fixed adjacent the end of the landside 13.
Fixed to the rear end of the mold board M is a curved plate 19, to the outer end of which. is attached the rear end of a .rod 20, the forward end of which is attached to the shaft 5, said rod serving to effectually brace the plate 19, which serves to level the earth removed by the plow.
Pivotally associated with the shaft 5 is a clevis 21, to which'may be attached the team of horses, for light work, or for at taching a tractor when the device is used for heavy work.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a plow has been provided so constructed that the same can be adjusted for plowing at different depth, upon simply rotating the shaft 5.
The sides of the frame 1 have suitably attached thereto vertically spaced bearings 22 which rotatably receive the spindles of the caster wheels 23, said wheels serving to support the forward end of the device. Having their rear ends fixed to the spindles are arms 24, the outer ends of which are pivotally connected to the adjacent ends of links 25, the other ends of which are pivotally connected to the clips 26 carried by the sides of the clevis 21. Thus it will be seen that when strain is applied to the clevis, which is pivoted to the beam, the spindles will be rotated thereby allowing the wheels 23 to efliciently guide the device.
Vhat is claimed is A plow of the class described, in combination with an arched frame, a threaded shaft associated with the frame, an axle carried by the frame, wheels mounted on the axle, a bearing carried by the axle and In testimony whereof, I afiix my signarlotzgtablg engaged thrlal lovi er (and of th; ture, in the presence of two Witnesses.
