TROUSERS-CREASER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 21] Jltlft.
Application filed June 18, 1917. Serial No. 175,348.
To all @0507; c't'may concern:
Be it known thatI, HERMAN Rosnirrirnn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Man hat'tan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Trousers-Creaser, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in View are: tomaintain the crease formed in trousers during the period when the same are stored; to provide an apparatus of the character indicated which is simple in construction and which may be reduced to a compact form; to provide means for hanging the apparatus and trousers held therein; to prevent trousers bagging at the knees; and to avoid glossing th trousers when creasing the same.
Drawings.
Figure 1 is a side view of an apparatus constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, the apparatus being shown in service;
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a section, the section being taken as on the line 83 in Fig. 1.
As seen in the drawings, the apparatus employs four bar-like leaves 8. The leaves 8 are arranged in pairs, each pair being permanently united by hinges 9. The leaves 8 are provided with permanent covers 10. The covers 10 are constructed from any suitable material. adapted for being dampened or wet with water. Each of the pairs of leaves 8 has pivotally attached thereto a plurality of Spreaders 11. The spreaders 11 are secured to their respective leaves by means of screws 12 and are provided at the opposite end with edge-opening slots 13 adapted. for engaging holding pins 14. provided in the leaves 8 of the opposite pair.
The spreaders 11 are preferably constructed of spring metal so that they may be bent when being placed in service, the re siliency of the said springs exerting thereafter a stretching effect upon the trousers by reason of the tendency of the said spreaders to resume their normal or straight position.
The leaves 8 are held in service by screw clamps 15. Any number of clamps may be employed. As shown in the drawings, four are usually used. As shown each clamp is provided with a screw 16, the end of which rests upon a wear plate 17 provided ,on the exposed side of each of the leaves 8.
Pivotally attached by means of the rivet pins 18, are hanging straps 19. The straps 19 have each a perforation 20. The straps 19 are so arranged that they may be overlaid one upon the othcr so that the perforations 20 will aline. The perforations 20 in service are employed to engage a hanger such as the nail 21.
lVhen arranging the apparatus for service, the leaves 3 of each pair are spread, the covers 10 being then dampened with water or other suitable fluid. The trousers are folded and placed between the leaves which are closed tightly thereover. hen the leaves 8 are closed on the trousers, the clamps 15 are installed in service and the screws 16 are manipulated to exert a closing pressure on said leaves and on the interveniug trousers. After the creased edges at one side of the trousers have been secured, the folded edges of the opposite side of the trousers are placed between the leaves 8 of the opposite pair and the clamps 15 therefor are manipulated as above described with reference to the first pair. It will be understood that the opposite edges of both legs of the trousers are creased at the same time.
After the two pairs of leaves have been secured, the spreaders 11 are moved to engage the pins 14, using the slots 13 for this purpose. In adjusting the spreaders 11, care shouldv be exercised to provide a bend in the said spreaders so that a spreading tension may be exerted upon the creasing leaves and the trousers held therebetween. In this position, the trousersmay be suspended or hung away by lifting the straps 19 to their service position and where they engage the hanger provided using the perforations 2O therefor.
Glaz'ms.
1. An apparatus as characterized comprising a plurality of pairs of creasing leaves pivotally connected to open bookwise; a plurality of separable screw clamps for compressing said leaves upon each other; resilient spreaders permanently mounted on one of said pairs of leaves for engaging in service the opposite pair of leaves; and a plurality of hanging straps pivotally attached to certain of said spreaders for suspending the apparatus and trousers held therein.
2. An apparatus as characterized comprising a plurality of pairs of creasing leaves pivotally connected to open bookwise; a plurality of separable screw clamps for compressing said leaves upon each other; resilient spreaders permanently mounted on one of said pairs of leaves for engaging in service the oppositepair of leaves; and a plurality of hanging straps pivotally attached to certain of said spreaders for suspending the apparatus and trousers held therein, said straps being provided with per- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for forations at their free ends for engaging a hanging device.
3.
