cation. I V
This invention relates to paper unfolding and guiding attachments for typewriters, and my'object is to produce means for facilitating the preparation and forwarding by banks and other institutions, of. notices as to the dates on which notes held by the sender, fall due. A further object is to produce an attachment of the character outline'd which will perform its function efficiently, can be easily and quickly placed in or removed from position, and is of simple, durable-and rigid part thereof.
inexpensive construction.
With these general objects in view the in-' vention consists in certain novel and peculiar features of construction and organlzatlon'of parts as. here nafter described and 'clalmed;
stood, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l, is a top plan view of a part of a typewrit'ing machine equipped with an attachment embodying my invention.
Fig. 2, is a rear view of the attachment. Fig. 3, is a central vertical transverse sec tion of the construction shown by Fig. 1. Fig. 4, is a perspective view of a part of-a modified form of the attachment. In the said drawings, where similar characters identify corresponding parts in all the'figures, 1 indicates the ends, 2- the cylinders or platen, and 3 the usual inclined paper supporting and guide plate of atypewriting machine of any suitable or preferred type.
The attachment is constructed as follows: 4 is a 'pair of end plates, and extending through said plates is a headed rod 5 equipped with a pair of nuts-6 at opposite sides of one of the plates for the purpose of adjustin the same longitudinally of the rod.
A rod% paralleling rod 5, extends through the said plates near the opposite ends thereof, and engaging said rod and the outer sides of plates. 4. respectively, are nuts 8 and 9, to
clamp the plates firmly against opposite ends oftube or sleeve 10 fitting on said rod 7. The parts thus described constitute a skeleton rectangular frame.
llisa pair of angle brackets fitting at.
their'rear ends on rod 7 between nuts 8 and 9 and. end plates 4', said nuts thus serving to clamp the angle brackets firmly at right angles, as shown, said end plates..- v
The angle platesare adapted to be clamped by clamping screws 12 to parts of the type writing machine frame. For an Underwood machine, as shown, the angle brackets will fit against the outer and upper sidesof the end bars 1 of the carriage frame, and will be provided with depending lugs 13 through which the clampingscrews 12 extend to clamp the angle'brackets firmly to the carriage frame so as toconstitute in effect, a
I The receptacle for the paper comprises a pair of angle plates 14 adjustable toward and from each other to accommodate folded paper strips P of different width, the two angle plates conjointly constituting av receptacle for the paper. Each angle plate is provided with a bottom 15 whereon the folded paperstand's and with a flange 16 extend vlng inwardly from "the front margin of its outer wall to overlap the side edges of the paper and prevent the same from bulging out of the receptacle.- -At a suitable point each of said angle plates is provided with a pair of the outer wall, these guidepins permitting the receptacleas the aper is fed by rotation of the cylinder of chine in spacing for a new line.
' The angle plates 14 which conjointly constitute the receptacle, are formed with uphooks w'ardly and with downwardlyfacin 18 forengagement with the rod fian sleeve or tube 10,'and to clamp said angle plates to said rods each angle plate is provided with a pair of slidable clamping aws 19. having 'pin and-slot connections at 20 'with the plates and yi'eldingly advanced by springs 21, the pressure of said springs holding said rods respectively clamped in said hooks.
cylindrical guide pins 17' spaced-- slightly apart and projecting inwardly from the typewriting 'ma-' or at any other angle to.
to rest upon the bottoms the spaces between; said pins and then downwardly to and between the paper guide plate 3 and the laten or cylinder '2, so that the operator of the machine can type or imprint upon the paper any desired'data, suchas the name of the personto whom the notice is to be sent and the date when the note or interest thereon falls due, etc.
- It is preferable that these notices shall be perforated crosswiseat the fold lines of the strip as at. P, for convenience in tearing offeach notice as it is completed through the imprinting thereon of the data above mentioned.
It will be readily notices complete in all respects as to certain data, can be prepared in the shape of folded sheets, and fed to the machine and filled thereon'and then detached for mailing, with reat rapidity. lln the' event it is desired to use folded pads of greater length than the receptacle, each member of the latter-can be i made with a telescopic section 23, which can 24: in said angle plates,
be readily slid upward or downward to accommodate the length of the pad. For convenience; the sections willbe in the formof angle plates fitting against the inner sides of the angle plates 1 and engaging grooves formed by bending the same along certain of their margins.
For convenience the device is illustratedwith the receptacle in an upright position.. It may .be supported horizontally or obli uely by efi'ecting pivotal adjustment of the brackets 11 may be changed by adjustment thereofand of standards 4;011 the rods 5 and s 7, to accommodate the frame to typewriter carriages of dififerentlengths.
' From the above description it will be ap appears to be the preferred form of the device it is to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes as fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
