To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, TVlARVIN H. linvnorns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Iowa Falls, in the county of Hardin and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sleigh-Runner Attachments for Baby-Carriages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved sleigh runner attachment for baby carriages, by means of which a baby carriage may be instantly arranged for use as a sleigh when desired, the attachment also serving to raise the wheels from the street or side walk surface and to hold the carriage stationary when desired, the object of the invention being to provide an improved attachment of this character which is simple in construction, which is adjustable to fit carriages of different sizes, which may be readily raised or lowered and which may be readily attached to or removed from the carriage.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a baby carriage provided with a sleigh runner attachment constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention and showing the attachment in use.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the attachment, with the wheels and axles of the vehicle indicated in dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a baby carriage provided with my improved sleigh runner attachment and showing the latter in raised inoperative position.

In the embodiment of my invention I provide a pair of runners 1, of suitable size and which are connected together at points a suitable distance from their front and rear ends by cross bars 2 The cross bars are secured to the raves. The runners are preferably of open construction as here shown and each runner is preferably made of a single piece of bar metal. The runners may, however, be of any suitable construction within the scope of my invention.
I also provide a pair of arched yokes l each of which comprises a shaft portion 5 of one of the bear- Specification of Letters Patent.

and a pair of arms 6. Each shaft portion is provided at the center with a crank T the said cranks being connected together by a longitudinally arranged rod 8 the ends of said rod being .pivotally mounted on the wrists of said cranks. Bearings 9 are provided for the shaft members of the yolres, the said bearings having clamps 10 for engagement with tie axles 11 of the baby carriage so that the yokes are pivotally and detachably secured to the carriage axles. The rod 8 comprises members 12, 13 which are telescopically connected together, so that said rod is adjustable longitud'nally according to the length of the carriage or the space between the carriage axles, one of the members of the rod having a set screw 1 1- to engage the other member and thereby enable the rod to be secured when arranged at any desired longitudinal adjustment. The arms of the yokes are provided at their lower ends with bearings through which the cross bars 2 extend so that the yokcs are also pivotally connected to the runners to enable the latter to be raised and lowered. Each yoke arm is longitudinally adjustable and comprises a pair of members one of which is telescopically connected to the other, as shown, one member of each yoke arm having a set screw 17 for engaging the other member and hence said yoke arms may be secured at any desired longitudinal adjustment. This construction of the yoke arms adapts the adjustment to be used in connection with a baby carriage having axles of any diameter.
I also provide a brace 18 which comprises members 19, 20 connected together by a rule joint 21 and respectively pivotally connected to the rod 8 and the front cross bar 2. A lever 22 is pivotally connected to the rear cross bar and is connected to the upper member of the brace by a rod 23. By means of this lever the brace may be folded to raise the attachment or may be straightened to lower the attachment and thereby raise the axles of the carriage above the ground, as will be understood. A suitable segment 2 1 is provided to hold and lock the lever in any desired adjusted position.
To use the attachment the same is first lowered to cause the runners to come in contact with the street surface, the user then with one foot holds the rear end of one of the runners and draws backwardly on the carriage handles, so as to cause the yokes to turn to a vertical position and thus raise the carriage as Will be understood. XV hen the attachment is not in use it is folded upwardly under the carriage axles as shown in Fig. 3. The attachment may be permanently connected to the carriage axles and used at any season of the year if desired and can be employed for holding the carriage stationary by lowering the attachment and then raising the carriage so that the axles are out of contact with the surface.
lVhile I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I Would have it understood that changes may be made in the form, proportion and construction of the several parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. The herein described sleigh runner attachment comprising runners, arched yokes each having a shaft portion and arms, said arms pivotally connected to the runners, means to pivotally connect the shaft portions of the yokes to the axles of a vehicle, a rod connecting said yokes together for simultaneous movement, a brace connecting the rod and the runners and having a rule joint, and means to operate the brace.
A sleigh runner attachment for baby carriages comprising a pair of arched yokes each having a shaft portion provided with a crank and also having arms pivotally connected to the runners, bearings for the arched portions of the yokes and provided With means to engage and secure said bearings to the vehicle axles, a rod connecting said cranks, a brace connecting said rod to the runners and having a .rule joint, and means to operate the brace.
3. A sleigh runner attachment for baby carriages comprising a pair of arched yokes each having a shaft portion provided with a crank and also having arms pivotally connected to the runners, bearings for the arched portions of the yokes and provided with means to engage and secure said bearings to the vehicle axles, a rod connecting said cranks, a brace connecting said rod to the runners and having a rule joint, and means to operate the brace, said yoke arms and said rod being longitudinally adjustable.
