Description

G. HEEREN.
SHOE FOR DUMPING CAGES.
APPLICATION FILED 1ULY2 19w.

SHOE FOB DUMPING-GAGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented'Nov. 13, 191 *7.
Application filed July 2, 1917. Serial No. 178,205.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE HEEREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gillespie, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoes for Dumping- Cages, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in shoes for dumping cages, used in mining, and has particular reference to a detachable member or plate adapted for connection with that portion of the shoe which is subjected to the maximum degree of wear.
A. further object of the invention is to provide means of the above mentioned character which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a shoe embodying my invention, and,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the detachable plate.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the body portion of the shoe, carrying longitudinal ribs or flanges 6 and 7, preferably formed integral therewith. The ribs 6 and 7 are spaced for receiving therebetween a roller 8, which is pivoted to the cage (not shown). The upper ends of the ribs 6 and 7 are inclined or extend laterally, as shown.
It is found that the maximum degree of wear is upon the upper end of the rib 6, and to overcome this disadvantage such upper end is off-set downwardly in the form of an extension 9, providing a recess 10, having a beveled or undercut shoulder 11.
The numeral 12 designates a detachable plate, which is longitudinally curved and adapted to fit upon the extension 9. The lower end of this plate is inclined or beveled, as shown at 13 and interfits with the wall 11. The upper end of the plate 12 is bent into the form of a U-shaped attaching member 14, straddling the upper end of the extension 9.
The plate 12 is provided with openings 15 for receiving counter-sunk bolts 16 and 17 having their heads flush with the upper surface of the plate 12. The bolts 16 extend through openings 18 and carry nuts 19, while the bolt 17 extends through openings 20 and carries a nut 21. It is thus apparent that the roller 8 acting upon the plate 12 will injure or wear the same, and when this occurs this plate may be removed and a new plate substituted therefor, without disturbing the other portions of the shoe.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination with a shoe provided with a pair of spaced ribs, one rib being provided with a recess upon its contacting side; of a detachable plate arranged within the recess and having one end bent into the form of an approximately U-shaped socket to straddle the corresponding end of the adjacent rib; and means for securing the plate in place.
2. The combination with a shoe provided with a pair of spaced ribs, one rib being provided with a downwardly oif-set extension having an inclined shoulder at its lower end, said downwardly oif-set extension forming a recess; of a detachable plate arranged within the recess, said detachable plate having its lower end inclined to interfit with the inclined shoulder and its upper end provided with an approximately U- shaped socket to receive and straddle the upper end of the extension; and means to connect the plate with the extension.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE I-IEEREN.
Witnesses:
PAUL MCKORKLE, O. C. HUBBART.
