Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,653, dated March 19, 1872.

The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in what are usually denominated bureau-washstands, so arranged that in addition to its legitimate use, it forms also a commode or closet--a very convenient and useful piece of furniture, especially for the sick room. The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the variousparts, as more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents the front of a stand, finished to imitate draw ers. The lid or top B is hinged at the back so as to be opened upwardly, and the section of the front composing the two upper drawpanels is, in turn, hinged to thelid, so that when the latter is opened, the former will fold against the lower side of the lid, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, exposing a chamber, 0, to receive the bowl and pitcher, as seen in Fig. 2, standing upon a bottom,'D. This bottom I) is so arranged that it, in turn, may be raised, (the bowl and pitcher having been removed) when a seat, E, is exposed. The vessel F may be secured to this seat in such a manner that the seat and vessel may be withdrawn, the seat being secured to the draw front G for that purpose; or the vessel may be placed upon the floor of the device, and when necessary withdrawn through the draw-front G.
- What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The washstand and commode combined, wherein the front A, thelid B, the chamber 0, the bottom D, the seat E,a1 1d drawer G are constructed and arranged substantially as described and shown.
