UNITED STATES T FFC".
JOHN H. STONE, OF CHAPELI HILL, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FENCES.
Specification describing a new andlniproved Fence, invented by JOHN H. STONE, of Chapel Hill, in the county of Washington and State of Texas. v
Figure l represents a front elevation of my improved fence. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same on the line c c, Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of the same on the line 7c k, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new fence of very simple construction and great strength and durability; and consists in the new arrangement of posts, rails, and false posts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A A in the drawing represent a series of posts, secured in the ground at a depth of from eighteen to twenty-fourinches, and at distances apart about twelve inches shorter than therails to be used. B B are the rails, placed obliquely against the fronts and backs of the posts, and so that the ends ofthe rails between one pair of posts rest on the ends of the rails between the adjoining pairs, as indicated in Figs. l and fp/O 2. After the rails have been placede-say, to about half the height of the posts--false posts O C are, by means of wire bands a, tied to the( posts A against that face of each with Which the rails are in contact. The false posts reach from the ground to the height to which the rails are to extend, and serve to confine the latter in their positlons. After the false posts have been secured, the remaining rails are applied. f The height of the fence may be cheaply increased Without the use of rai-ls by having one or more strands, b, of Wire stretched between or through the posts A. Such wire b may, however, be dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent- The fence cclnposedfof the posts A, oblique rails B, band a, and false posts-O, substantially as herein shown and described.
JOHN H. STONE.
