is particularly adaptable to the now commonly accepted-card system of keeping accounts and also indexes. i

The main object of this invention resides in the provision of a filing box wherein the base portion is so constructed that the pack of cards contained therein -may be arranged and held in: such manner that each one is at a slightly higher level than the succeeding one, whereby it is possible to easily take hold of thefirst card to cause its removal. In this connection, my invention also resides in so constructing the base portion as to particularly adapt it to sliding drawer type of filing ing of drawer, since obviously the structure might be modified and still be within the spirit of the invention.

A further object of the invention resides in the combination of a set of cards, each having a notch along itslower edge, with a file box provided with a rib in its base and which file box is wider than the cards by at least equal to the distance of the notches from one edge of the cards; By this arrangement, after one of the cards has been used, it may be shifted laterally to indicate that it has been in use and still keep its correct position in the file.

This box is also provided with a supple- "mental base formed of a plurality of sections 9, 10 and 11, the section 9 being the rear section and being pivotally anchored as is 1 shown at 12 to the rear corner of the box I. The intermediate section 10 is hingedly connected on its opposite ends to the front and rear sections, as is shown. at 13 and 14 respectively, nd the sections9 andlO are of such length that when they are in the position shownin Fig. 3, they occupy approximately the entire length of the box 1. The section 11 is free at its upper end and likewise the pivotal connections 13 and 14 are entirely independent of connection with the box 1. The front section 11 is of approximately the same height as the front. end 3 of the box and when the sections are'moved to the position shown in Fig.2, the upper end of the front base section 11 is designed to cotiperate with serrations 15 carried by the inside of the pivoted front end 3, as is shown. The box 1 is also provided with a pair of longitudinally extending slide rods 16, upon which the follow block 17 is slidably mounted and which frictionally en-- gages these slide rods 16. This follow block is centrally cut out, as is shown at 18, in order that it maybe moved back and forth when the base sections have been: made to assume an inclined position. Also, the base sections 9 and 10 are provided adjacent one edge with a rib shown at 19 and this rib is designed to coact with notches 20'carried by each of the filing oraocount cards 21. Reference to Fig. 4, will show that the box 1 is of a greater width than the cards 21 and this additional width must at least equal the-distance the notches 20 are from the I edges 22 of the cards 21, so that the same in the rear 11.0-

After a card has been removed and posted, it may be placed in the position occupied by the cards upon the base sections to the left of Fig. 2'and as each card is posted, it may be shifted laterally to bring its notch 20 into engagement with the rib 19.

Inasmuch as it is unlikely that each card will-be used each time, this manner may be adopted to indicate the active accounts for that day. After the posting operation has been completed, the base sections may again be moved about their pivot connections to assume the positions shown in Fig. 3, whereupon the cards may again be moved back to the rear end of the cabinet and be in posi .tion for a similar operation the succeeding day.

Thus, itwill be apparent that I have provided a cabinet which will .add considerably to the convenience of the user and wherein considerable time may be saved in the keeping of accounts by the card system.

What I claim, is:

' 1. A filingbox comprising a drawer member, and a base for said drawer formed of sections hingedly' connected together normally lyin flat within the bottom thereof and norma ly upstanding end piece located adjacent one end of said drawerhingedly connected to one of said sections and forming a portion of said base, said sections being arranged to be moved to such position within the drawer that inclined surfaces are pre-' 2'. 4. A filing box comprising a drawer member, a base for said drawer formed of a front, rear and intermediate section, the intermediate and rear sections approximately equaling the length of said drawer and the front section being normally upright-against the front of the drawer, the intermediate section being hingedly-connected at its opposite ends to the front and rear sections respectively, the rear section being pivotally anchored to the drawer at its rear end, the

other end of the base being slidable within the drawer whereby inclined surfaces may be presented, and means whereby the sec tions may be temporarily held in such position.

Afiling box comprising a drawer member including a hinged front, a base for said drawer formed of a front, rear and intermediate section, the intermediate and rear sec-- tions approximately equaling the length of said drawer and the front section being normally upright against the front of the drawer, the intermediate section being hingedly connected at its opposite ends to the front and rear sections respectively, the rear section being pivotally anchored to the drawer at its rear end, the other end of the base being slidable within the drawer whereby inclined surfaces may be presented, means whereby the sections may be temporarily held in such position, and means for temporarily holding said front in a'lowered position.
