IMPROVEMENT IN BAGGAGE-CHECKS.
Speeiication forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,418, dated March 12, 1872.
I, MARION N. con, of Water vaneyfin the county of Yalabusha and State of Mississippi, have invented certain Improvements in Baggage-Checks, of which the following is a speciiication:
Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a lateral section embodying my invention.
My invention relates to a device for checking baggage or parcels from point to point by railroad or other conveyance. It consists of the dial A, with the recess B and indexes C and D, and the pivotal spring E, combined and arranged substantially as shown and described.
A is a dial-plate, constructed of any suitable material, and provided with the circular recess B, wherein is located the hands of the dial, one of which has stamped 0r engraved thereon the Word to,7 and the other the word from.77 The pivotal points of the hands of the dialpress aga-inst the washerf, and the rivet e is cupshaped at the head thereof on the outer surface of the dial; and there is located in the cavity of the cup thereofa metallic spring, E; or rubber may be employed with like usefulness and effect for pressing the Washer f closely against the inner ,side ofthe plate of the dial, and thereby preventing the hands or indexes from being jarred out of their proper position; and to prevent the cap from being rubbed, it maybe located in a recess projecting toward the face ofthe dial.- On the face of the dial-plate numerals are stamped or engraved in a circle, which numeral s a-re designed to represent cities, or stations between cities 5 or the names of cities only may be stamped or engraved where the numerals are located. When preferable, numerals and the names of cities may together be employed, the numerals representing intermediate stations; but when employed as -a through-check, the names of the cities may take theplace of the numbers in the circle aforesaid.
Claim.
I claim- In a baggagecheck, the dial-plate A, with indexes C and D, in combination and arrangement With the pivotal spring E and cup-shaped rivet e, substantially as shown and described.
