Improvement in Apparatus for Loading Timber.
No.124,385. PatentedMar'ch 5.1872.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH SANDFORD PRESTON, OF WINONA, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR LOADING LUMBER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 124,385, dated March 5, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. PRESTON, of lVinona, in the county of Winona and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Apparatus for Loading Lumber, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is, a representation of a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
This invention has relation to an apparatus for assisting the loading and unloading of lumber-cars, and consists in the novel construction and arrangement of rollers and other devices for such purpose, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Arepresents a frame or bracket, supporting the horizontal roller B and the vertical roller (3, arranged as shown. D designates avertical post, supporting the frame Aon its upper end. E represents a horizontal frame, through which are passed two eye-bolts, F F, secured and adjusted by nuts f f on their inner ends. The
nut f has an arm, G, by which it may be turned. Through the eyes 0 e of said bolts the post 1) passes, resting against a bracket, 6 attached to the frame E. To raise and lower the post the nut f is loosened, allowing the postto slide through the eyes of the bolt. On each side of the frame E are two clamps, H, consisting of bolts with their inner ends bent to form hooks. O11 their outer ends square crank-nuts I or other suitable fastening devices are placed. These clamps are designed to be secured to the iron bar on which the car-door slides. The lumber is passed in out and out of the car over. the roller B, the roller 0 being used in aiding the arrangement of lumber lengthwise of the car.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the roller B, frame A, adjustable post D, frame E, and clamps H, as andfor the purpose specified.
2. The improved timber-loading and unloading apparatus, having the rollers B 0, frame A, and post D, combined and arranged substantially as specified.
3. The combination with the roller-frame A and post D of the adjusting eye-bolts F F, frame E, and clamp H, substantially as shown and described.
4. 111 an apparatus for assisting in loading and unloading lumber, the frame E, having the clamps H, as and for the purpose specifled.
In testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH SANDFORD PRESTON.
