To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES C. GLEED, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Yakima, in the county of Yaln'ma and State of Washington, have invented certain new andxuseful Improvements in R0- tary Pumps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in rotary pumps and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character wherein radially movable blades are carried by a rotor and wherein said blades coact with a hub eccentrically positioned relative to the rotor for imparting requisite movement to the blades; and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the hub is readily removable and can be replaced when required by the necessities of practice.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the stator includes a removable side plate and wherein said removable side plate coacts with the rotor to allord a support therefor.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a rotary pump of this general character having novel and improved means wherein the parts. subject to wear may be' readily replaced whereby the life of the pump may be materially prolonged.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved pump whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and other- Wise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed. I
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I W111 now proceed 'to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view taken through a pump constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and at right angles to the axis of the rotor;
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken through my improved pump as herein embodied;

As herein embodied, S denotes the stator of my improved pump and which includes a casing 1 affording a substantially'circular chamber having in communication therewith. at the upper portion of the casing the induction and eduction ports 2.
A side face of the casing 1 is open and said open side face is adapted to be closed by the removable side plate or head P. Depending from the casing l' are the supporting legs 3 of any ordinary or preferred type and for a purpose which is believed to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains.
Disposed transversely through the casing I'abovebut in vertical alinement with the axial center of the chamber within the easing, is the shaft 4 also adapted to bedisposed through the removable plate or head P when my improved pump is assembled, and said shaft 4 extends beyond opposite sides of the casing 1 and is adapted to be driven from any suitable sourceof power coupled with either of the extended portions of the shaft.
The fixed side plate or head 5 of the casing 1 is provided .with 'a depressed portion 6, the peripheral wall of which being concentric to the shaft 4 and the removable plate or head P is proyided in its inner face with the depressed portion 7 of the same diameter as the depressed portion 6 and also concentric to the shaft 4 when said plate or head P is in applied position.

The periphery of the rotor R is provided with the transverse openings orslots 17 herein disclosed as four in number and equidistantly spaced, and slidable through each of said slots 17 is a blade B. Each pair of opposed blades B is provided at one side portion thereof with an inwardly directed shank or extension 18 which is adapted to be received between the spaced ears 19 carried by the central portion of the sides of an elongated yoke 20. The extensions or blades are detachably held to the ears 19 through the medium of the removable members 21 whereby it will be at once self-evident that the blades B may be readilyremoved and replaced when the requirements of practice may so necessitate.
the yokes 20 is the stationary cam member 22 with which the intermediate portions of the yokes 20 are adapted to contact, and as is clearly illustrated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, it is to be noted that the portions of the yoke coacting with the cam 22 are provided with the lining blades 23 which directly contact with the periphery of the cam 22. These plates 23 are adapted to be removed as clearly disclosed in Fig. 2 so that upon a plate becomthe same may be readily and conveniently replaced so that the life of the pump ismaterially prolonged.

By this arrangement the cam 22 may be readily replaced-when the requirements of practice may necessiadapted to be seated within the i tate and without the necessity of disassembli'ng the entire pump.
a It has also been'found of particular advantage to secure to the under surface of the peripheral wall of the rotor R at opposite sides ofeach of the slots 17 the steel plates 31 continued or otherwise held in applied position but which are adapted to be readily removed and replaced. I These plates 31 serve to take up wear whereby it will be at once perceived that the life of the pump is further prolonged.
It is preferred that the blades B be made of tempered steel but by the use of the wear plates 31 it will be at once self-evident that particular care need not be exercised in the character of metal from which the rotor R chilled cast iron and which is permissible in view of the fact that the same can be readily replaced when the requirements of practice so necessitate.
From the foregoing -description,'. it is thought to be obvious that a pump constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility withwhich it may be assembled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and. modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for thisreason I do not .wish to be understood as limiting myself to theprecise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown incarrying out my invention in practice, except as hereinafter claimed.

comprising a casing a removable head for a hollow rotor arranged-within the casing, a shaft disposed through the casing and the rotor, a side of the rotor being keyed to the shaft,

2. A rotary pump comprising a casing having one side open, a removable head for closing said open side of the casing, a hol low rotor arranged within the casing, a
shaft disposed through the casing and the rotor, a side of the rotor being keyed to the shaft, an outstanding annular flange carried by the opposite side of the rotor and concentric to the shaft, an inwardly directed annular flange carried by the removable head of the casing, the flanges of the rotor and the head being concentrically arranged and spaced one from the other, anti-friction means interposed between said flanges, an inwardly directed tubular cam member carried by the head and through which the shaft is disposed, a plurality of blades carried by the rotor and movable inwardly and outwardly with respect thereto, and means coacting with the blades and cam member for imparting the requisite movement to the blades, said cam member being detachably engaged with the inwardly directed flange of the removable head of the casing.
