Be it known that I, THOMAS J Jmucx, a citizen of Austria-Hungary, and a resident of Great Falls, in the county of Cascade and State of Montana, have invented a new and Improved Cigarette-Case, of which the following is a. full, clear, and exact description. f

My invention relates to a cigarette ycase :from which the cigarettes may be readily withdrawn in single succession as desired without removing the cover of the case.

An object of the invention is to provide for positioning the cigarette for convenient withdrawal and to do this with facility and despatch.

A further object is to provide an ejecting device arranged to be set and released from the exterior of the case, and adapted to partially eject a'single cigarette that itma'y be readily grasped for withdrawal.

A more specific object `of the invention is to provide an ejecting device and controlling means therefor, simple in construction and unfailing in operation and of a character to be housed, except the exterior operating devices, in a small chamber provided lin the case.

The nature of the invention and its advantages will more clearly appear as the description proceeds.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.

edge of which abuts against a shoulder 12 produced by theenlarged, approximately central portion 13 of the body 1(1). A similarpshoulder 14 is formed at the opposite Side of' the' enlarged portion 13 against which abuts the edge of a housing 15 which slips onto the opposite endof the body.

The engagement of ythe housing 15 with the shoulder 14 provides a housing space between the end of the housing and the closed end ofthe body l0 for the ejecting mecha-` nism. The end of the cover 11 is provided with an outlet hole 16 sufficient to readily permit escape of a single cigarette, said hole` being closed by a slidable cover such as a swing cover 17 pivoted as at 18 and adapted to be moved by the finger or finger nail.

Within the body 10 and in line with the outlet hole 16 is an open-ended channel or trough 19 which is produced in the illustrated example by a corrugated plate 20 disposed in the body along one side thereof, the inner end of the said channel being in register with an openingl 21 in the bottom 10a of the body. The head 22 of a spring-actuated ejector 23 is adapted to protrude through the-hole21 for engaging a cigarette. Ll and 5, while the opposite arm of said latch is pivotally connected with a plunger 3a extending to the exterior of the housing, and provided with a suitable head 35. A spring 36 beneath the catch arm of thel latch 31 tends o engage the same with the ejector, but the catch is releasable against the tension of the spring 36 by pressure on the head 35.

With the described construction to withdraw a cigarette from the case, the cover 17 is swung away from the opening' 16 and a slight shake, if necessary, is Given to the box to insure that a cigarette will gravitate into the channel 19, the case having been disposed with said channel at the lower side thereof, as 'in lFig. 3. Pressure exerted on the head 29 through the lever 25 will place the ejector 23 under tension and cause it to be engaged by the lat-ch 31. An inward pressure on the head 35 will now release the ejector from the catch 31, whereby the tension of the ejector will spring the same forwardly bringing the head 22 thereof into contact with the end of the. cigarette adjacent to the opening 21 so that the cigarette will be ejected or caused to protrude through the opening 16.

a resilient ejector in the case adjacent to the bottom of the container and outside of the same, and adapted to displace a cigarette in a direction toward the front of the container, a lever operable from the exteriorof the case and engageable with the ejector to place the saine under tension, means to hold the tensioned ejector restrained, and means operable from the exterior of the case to release the tensioned ejector from the holding means.

A cigarette case including a container body having an open front end and a closed bottom formed with an opening at a side thereof, a cover for the open end of the body and formed with an `outlet opening in register with the opening in the said bottom, said container having a longitudinal open-ended channel in line with the said openings, a housing removably. titting the body at the bottom thereof, an ejector carried by said housing and engageable through the opening in the bottom of the container with a cigarette in said channel, and controlling means for said ejector, said controlling means being operable from the exterior of the housing. i o
