To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that I, HERBERT L. STUBBS, a citizen of the United `States, and resident of Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso vand State of Colorado, haveV invented certain new and useful Improvements in lwhich can be instantly engaged with a shade and lamp socket, in order that the shade will be properly supported with relation to the electric lamp.

Another object of the invention is to provide a novel electric lamp shade bracket having arms arranged thereon whereby a shade when engaged by the same will be firmly held in position against accidental displacement and further will be permitted slight expansion and contraction, thus, eliminating liability of breaking of the shade.

Among other aims and objects of the invention may be recited, the provision of a bracket of the character mentioned, with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production small, land efciency and operation high.

Other and further improvements and novel details of the construction and arrangement of parts will be appreciated from the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and wherein the preferred embodiments, of the invention are shown for the purpose of illustration.

In the drawings:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my imf proved lamp base bracket as applied;

Fig. 2 is a top plan thereof with parts of the same shown in section; and

Fig. 3 is a side elevation having parts thereof broken away and shown in section of a slightly modified form of lamp shade bracket.

With more particular reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views, I have-shown-for the pur; pose of illustration, my-impro'ved' shade bracket asvapplied to the conventional'type of electric lamp socket indicated by the numeral 1, into which socket'there is turned van electric lamp 2.

In order that the shade 3 maybe properly supported about the electriclamp 2, there is provided a bracket, which bracket includes an inherently resilient split collar 4, the opposite endsof which are overlapped and are provided with right-angularly disposed inger pieces 5, shown to advantage in the Fig. 2. A headed lug 6 is formed upon one end of the annular collar 4 and is adapted Yto receive within a key hole slot 7 formed within the opposite or remaining extremity of the said annular collar. Thus, when the headed portion of the lug 6 is passed through the enlarged opening of the key hole slot and then permitted to move into the reduced portion thereof, accidental disengagement of the adjacent collar end will be prevented and proper functioning thereof, consequently, insured.

`With a view toward providing suitable means whereby the beading or top portion of the lamp shade 3 may be engaged and supported in position about the electric lamp 2, there is formed or otherwisesecured to the peripheral surface of the collar 4 a plurality of radially disposed engaging arms 8, the outer ends of the said arms being bent downwardly as at 9 in order that the same will sufficiently engage the beading or upper portion of the lamp shade 3. By so mounting the engaging arms 8 upon the annular collar 4, it will be appreciated, that ka shade may be readily engaged thereby andthaty slight expansion and contraction of the same will be permitted. In the Fig. 3 I have shown arslightly modified form of lampV shade bracket, wherein, the radially disposed engaging arms 8 are formed of sheet metal and have engaged with their outer extremity, the curved annular split collar 10, which collar has the opposite ends thereof overlapped, similar to the collar 4 and is provided with spaced apart linger pieces 11, whereby the shade may be readily engaged thereby. By providing the annular curved band 10, it is evident, that a secure connection between the beading of the lamp shade 3 and the bracket Patented Oct. 9, i

is insured and consequently, accidental displacement or loosening of the shade -is eliminated.

Still further embodiments of the invention than those herein'especially deli-ned may be resorted to as conditions or preference may dictate, as may be in keeping vwith the hereto appended claims.

I claim:

l. In a lamp shade bracket, the combination of a split resilient collar having` the opposite ends overlapped, said cellar having a key hole slot adjacent one end thereof, a headed lug formed on the other end adapted to engage in said slot, and finger engaging' 1'5 v'collar having a key hole slot adjacent one end, and a headed lug formed on the other end adapted to engage in said slot `for a kpurpose specified.,
