, and smoke pipe The amount of air admitted into the pipe section is regulated by means of a valve 10, and if desired, a'pluralityof baflie plates 11 may be provided interiorly of the pipe section to interrupt and retard the flow of the air through the pipe section.
By introducing the air through the pipe 4 and box a into the furnace or stove at a point above the fire, the oxygen contained in the air will cause the gas from the'coal to immediately ignite before entering the smoke pipe, thus obtaining the additional heat, which under other circumstances, would escape through the smoke pipe.
It will further be seen that heat can be quickly obtained by the use of this device, as when the'fire is first started or a new supply of coal is introduced into the fire box, the gases arising from the coal will ignite and rapidly heat parts coming in contact therewith, while under ordinary circumstances, it is necessary for the fresh coal to be fully ignited before the highest efliciency of heating qualities can be obtained.
When the draft is fixed to cause'the products of combustion to pass downward through the box a, said box serves as an auxiliary or secondary--combustion chamber.
It will further be seen that by introducing the pipe section in the pipe 4:, as shown, the air will be superheated while passing through the pipe section and by placing baffle plates in a short ,pipe section, the passage of air will be sufliciently retarded toattain the necessary heated condition be-. fore being introduced into the gases.
By introducing the air into the furnace in the manner shown, it will causethe gas to ignite immediately upon arising andhefore it has a chance to leave the furnace or accumulate in the combustion chamber, and
' in view of the increased heating capacity,
a forced-draft, required under ordinaryccircumstances, is eliminated, the coal burning under normal conditions, thus obtaining betterconsumption of $116,005.. withless ash.
And it will further be seen that a heating plantof insu flicient size to produce the necessary heat under ordinary circumstances, can-bebrought up to {the proper heating capacity with the use of my device without increasing the consumption of coal and by reason of a less intense heat in the firebox the life of the fire box and grate will becorrespondingly increased.
