RALPH WV. BEEBE, OF MOUNT HERMON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ROBE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 2; 1917.
Application filed September 23,1918, Serial No. 121,851.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RALPH \V. BEEISE, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Mount Hermon, in the county of Franklin and; State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Robe-Holders, of Which the following is a specification, reference being had-to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in'robe holders and it is an'object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which may be employed with convenience and facility for anchoring a lap robe or the like against accidental displacement.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character which, in addition to affording an anchoring means for a lap robe,
- may also serve with equal facility to hold a foot rug in applied position.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved robe holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in top plan illustrating a holder constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position;
Fig. 2 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section illustrating my improved holder as herein embodied; and
Fig. 3 is a view in bottom plan of my improved holder as herein disclosed, detached.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, F denotes the floor of a vehicle and with which my improved holder is adapted to coact.
As herein embodied, my improved holder comprises a body 1 of predetermined configuration and dimensions provided adjacent one end with the raised portion 2 preferably elliptical in form and which is adapted to be received within the ring memben 3 formed preferably of thin resilient metal and having an extension 4- which is pivotally, engaged,- as at 5, withthe body 1, whereby said ring member 3 may be swung into or out of operative position relative to theraised portionQ; In practice a lap robe or the like is adaptedito beclampedbetween thebody l and the ring3, said clamping action being materially facilitated, which is thought to be clearly apparent to those skilled in the artto which my invention appertains, through the medium of the raised portion 2.
Secured to and disposed longitudinally of the under surface of the body 1 is the spring member S preferably formed of wire of requisite gage and bent upon itself to afford parallel strands G, the connected ends of said Strand 6 being separated, as at 7, to afford an eye through which the pivot member 5' is disposed and which serves as a further medium for holding the spring member S to the body 1. Other suitable means as indicated at 8 are employed for holding the spring member S to the body 1, said means being herein disclosed as ordinary staple members.
The outer extremities of the strands 6 are coiled, as at 9, to facilitate the spring action of the member S and so that the body 1 will be constantly urged toward the floor F so that upon the insertion of a floor rug between said body 1 and the floor F, said floor rug will be effectively maintained in applied position.
As herein set forth, the securing plates 10 are employed. and which are suitably anchored, as at 11, to the floor and each of said plates 10 are provided with the inwardly disposed extensions or fingers 12 which extend through an adjacent coil 9 and serve as a means for maintaining the spring member S in applied position. It is also to be noted that the extremities of the strands 6 terminate between the plates 10 and the floor F whereby the requisite spring action of the member S is further facilitated.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a robe holder constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and compara tively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be for this reason I do not Wish to be under: stood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my inventlon 1n practice, except as hereinafter claimed. I o1a1m:
1. In combination with a surface, .a body, spring means secured to the body and the surface for constantly urging the body toward the surface, and clamping means carried by the bod 2. In combination with a surface, a body, spring means secured to the body and the surfaoefor constantly urging the body toward the surface, and a pivoted clamping member carried by the body.
3. In combination with a surface, a body, spring means secured to the body and the surface for constantly urging the body toward the surface, and a pivot clamping member carried by the body, said clamping member being provided with an opening and said body being provided with a raised portion coasting with the opening of tloeclam ping member forincreasing the clamping action-of said member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflixmy signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
