Description

W. P. SENG.
FLAG HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR AUTOMOBILES.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 8 1916,
1,240,377. 4 Patented Sept. 18, 1917.
WENDELIN P. SENG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
FLAG-HOLDER ATTACHMENT FOR AUTOMOBILES.
Application filed July 8, 1916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VVENDELIN P. SENG,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Flag-Holder Attachment for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment especially designed for use upon automobiles and other vehicles and intended as a con Fig. 3 is a vertical, central, transverse.
section of the holder, a flag-pole or standard being shown in position therein.
I construct the hereinafter described flagholder attachment from a blank of springwire of suitable gage and length. The blank is bent at its middle upon itself, as at 1, thus forming opposite nearly parallel terminals 2, which at points at one side of their middles, are rebent upon themselves, as at 3, to form opposite companion upwardly disposed substantially parallel terminals 4:, which at points approximately transversely opposite the bend 1, are rearwardly disposed and converged to form a horizontal shank This shank may be of any desired length, and beyond the same each terminal is bent in approximately semicircular form to form one member of a spring-jaw 6, the ends of the jaws, when not spread, meeting at the point 7 It will be seen that by reason of the described bending of the blank there is produced upper and lower spring- jaws 8 and 9 respectively. The outer aw 8 is preferably flared, as shown, as is also the two lower jaws 9.
The spring-jaw members 6, it will be understood, are by reason of their relative adjustability, adapted to clamp about a convenient cylindrical object, generally one at.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18, 1917.
Serial No. 108,237.
the bolts of the lamp-brackets of an automobile, and to be held thereonby the nuts of such bolts.
An ordinary flag-pole or staff 10 may be readily inserted downwardly between the jaws 8 and 9 of the holder, and when so positioned, it will not only be embraced at opposite sides by said jaws, but also at four dilierent points by the terminals 2 and 4.. It will be apparent that in this manner the staff will be held securely in position, and may be readily inserted or removed when desired. The device being formed of springwire will readily and automatically adjust itself to staffs of various diameters.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. The herein described flag-holder at tachment, the same formed of a blank of spring-wire bent at its middle and at each side thereof to form upper and lower pairs of outwardly flaring spring-jaws, the jaws of each pair being spaced apart and those of one pair being angularly disposed with relation to those of the remaining pair, the terminals of the blank beyond the jaws being bent to form a right-angularly disposed shank terminating in opposite curved bolt embracing members, the spacing of the jaws of each set of jaws being such that they are adapted to pass and clamp a staff of suitable s1ze.
2. The herein described flag-holder attachment, the same consisting of a springwire blank bent at its middle to form one member of an upper jaw and opposite depending terminals, the latter being rebent at one side of their middles to form a pair of lower spaced apart jaws at angles to the upper aw-member and ascending terminals, and at points substantially opposite the middle bend of the blank, disposed at right angles to the ascending terminals and combined to form the second member of the upper jaw and a shank, the ends of the latter being bent in semicircular form to produce opposite bolt embracing members, the spacing of the jaws of each set of jaws being such that they are adapted to pass and clamp a staff of suitable size.
3. The herein described flag-holder attachment, the same consisting of a spring- Wire blank bent at its middle to form one member of an upper jaw and opposite de pending terminals, the latter being rebent at one side of their rain-dies to form apair of lower spaced apart aws at angles to the upper aw-member and ascending terminals, and at points substantially opposite the middle bend of the blank disposed at right angles to the ascending terminals and combined to form the second member of the upper jaw and a shank and beyondthe latter bent to produce an attaching means, the spacing of the aws of each set of aws being such that they are adapted to pass and clamp a staff of suitable size.
4. The hereinafter described flag-holder attachment, the same consisting of a springwire blank bent at its middle to form one member of an upper jaw and depending terminals, the latter being outwardly disposed and bent upon themselves to form 1 one member of the upper flared jaw and at their lower ends recurved upon themselves I to form opposite lower jaws at angles to the upper jaw-member and 'divergently disposed, with relation to each other and ascending terminals, the latter opposite the upper jaw being laterally disposed to form a second jaw-member and a shank,' and at taching-means,the spacing of the jaws of each set of jaws being such that they are adapted to pass and clamp a staff of suitable size, at the endof the shank. V
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
