JEAN LUCIEN ABADIE, OF SANTA BARBARA, CALIFORNIA. v
PORTABLE SERVING-BUFFET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18, 1917..
Application filed August 12, 1916. Serial No. 114,493.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, JEAN LUcruN ABADm, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Number' 621 State street, Santa Barbara, State of California, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Serving- Buffets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v
The present invention relates to portable serving tables and more particularly to a buffet table to be used in lunch rooms and the like, as described in my copending ap- "plication Serial Number 94,370, filed May An object of the present invention is to provide a portable table of the character aforesaid whereby foods, liquids and other articles used in a lunch room may be carried and the compartments for retaining the articles may be all arranged within the table thereby giving a good appearance to the table and the foods within. the table may be yarranged and so exposed to view as to appear appetizing to the patrons of the lunch room.
Vith the above and other objects in view which will hereinafter appear as the description continues, the invention consists ofy the novel features of construction and the formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings is shown the simple and preferred form of the invention it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details herein exhibited but the right is hereby reserved to any changes or alterations that may be had and which come within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof or sacriicing the efficiency of the same.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the table embodying the present invention;
Fig'. 2 is a similar view having a portion of the drawers thereof broken away;
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section;
Fig. 4: is a vertical transverse section taken on the line 4--1 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a vertical transverse section taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 6 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 6 6 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 7 is an end elevation;
Fig. 8 is a rear end elevation;
Fig. 9 is a plan view;
Fig. 10 is a plan view with the extendible tables open;
Fig. 11 is a plan view of oneof the eX- tendible tables removed;
gig. 12 is a side elevation of the same; an
Fig. 13 is a detail perspective view of the metallic storing chamber adapted to be arranged within the table.
Referring to the accompanying drawings wherein the like and corresponding parts are designated bv similar reference characters throughout the several views- The table forming the subject matter of the present invention comprises a base portion 1 supported upon vthe casters 2 and supported upon the base portion 1 are the vertical end standards 3 and also the intermediate standards 4L. Arranged upon the intermediate standards A is a supplemental frame comprising a base portion 5, end partition walls 6 and intermediate partition walls 7 which divide the supplemental frame into three sections. Arranged within the intermediate section are the shelves 8 and 9 whereas one of the end sections has arranged therein a shelf 10 and the other end section has arranged therein a shelf l 11 forming a continuation of the shelves 8 and 10 and also a plurality of shelves 12. The
upper end ofthe intermediate section is closed by means of the top 13 whereas the outer ends of the Lipper sections are open so that access may be gained to the interior of the two outer-sections. A top 14 for the table is provided comprising a stationary inten mediate section 15 and the extendible table sections 16. The entendible table sections have each extended therefrom a pair of bars or arms 17 adapted to slide within the guideways 18 whereby the extendible top may be closed as better shown in Fig. 9 oropened as shown in Fig. 10. Arranged upon the rear support 41 are a plurality of shelves 19 upon which various articles may be arranged and these shelves are housed within the table. lhen it is desired a suitable cover or folded dooil (the latter not being shown) may be carried by the table for completely housing the shelves 19 and the contents supported thereby. The forward vide; supports for additional articles offfood` such as cakes-and pies and whichzartlcles .compartments 22 and 23 are openings in which are adapted to be placed the intake ends of; the faucets 24. Adaptedto belarranged within the U casing 2l is ya metallic casing 25 :having leading therefrom `the faucet 26 and the upperl ends .of thefcasings v2l and 25 are adapted to ,be closed by means of a cover 27.
Thelowerportion l of thetable. has a partition 28 arranged? therein 1 dividing the same into two sections and the opposite sides offthesections are ati-all times open and also articles of= food or culinary articles such as dishesto be used in the lunch rooinmay be placed in these compartments'uponthe bottom l of the table.l The shelves 8, l0 and l2 arranged within the supplemental portion ofy the table are also adapted to receive articles of food or culinary articlesvbu-tthe opposite side walls of the supplemental casing arel adapted'to be closed by means of the slidable doors. IThe slidable doors arranged at each side offthe supplemental framecomprise the end sections 29 which yare adapted to yclose the yend sections of the supplemental frame f and al pair of sliding intermediate doors 30 are provided for closing the medial section of the supplemental:` frame'. Ar-
ranged-upon the shelf 9 of the intermediate section isv a sliding tray 3ly for holdingy knives, forks and spoons7 or other silverware adapted to be used byy thepatrons of the'lunch room. The shelves 19, and 20y arranged atfthe opposite ends of the table prowill be in the immediate view of the patrons. The `compartments 22 and 23 may contain milk and cream or similar:` liquids, whereas the compartment 25 may eontainice-water ora similar cooling agent andthe cold air throw-n off bythiscooling agent contained,
within the compartment 25 may travel through the perforations 32 arranged within the partitions of the table so that this cold air may travel through the various compartments of the table for cooling the foods carried. thereby.
' By providing the top of the table with the movable section 16 access may be gained to the upper end of the end sections of the supplemental frame andialso theseeXtendible sections 16 may be usedwvh-en so eX- tended for supporting .various dishes which are. to vbe served to the patrons of the luncl i room. p
Fromithe-foregoing it is obvious thatfl have provided :a portable buffet serving table in which may be arranged various foods and culinary articles to be used by the patrons' of the lunch room7 thatl the table may be easilyv transported around a lunch room and the various articles of foodcontained therein. may be shownf to the ini-mediate view of the patrons7 thereby making a coin-y plete disclosure of thefoodsassold byk the= lunch room and; setting forth numerous foods from which the patrons may select foods desired in a more appetizing manner. Having thus fullyy described my. invention, what I claim as .new and desireto -secure -by Letters Patent is:
A portable buffet serving table-comprisend and intermediate standards supported thereupoma supplemental frame arranged between said intermediate standards, a parz tition for div-iding saidsupplemental frame into,:sections, shelves arrangedrwithin said base portion and supplemental frame, slidabledoorsvforclosing the opposite-sides of said supplemental frame,l a top carried by said base portion, saidtop adapted to -cover said baseportion and said \supplementalv frame-7A extendible i sections i arranged within saidtop `andineans whereby when saideX-i. tendibleA sections are opened access may be-v gafinedintothe supplementalrframe for the purposeset forth.
In witness whereof lhave? hereunto set my hand:
JEAN Lucien ABl-inne.
