which can be both readily installed in the door and easily manipulated.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the
invention residing in the construction, com-- bination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 shows a fragmentary sectional view of the door with my improved lock associated therewith in side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View taken through the door and lock casing, looking down on the lock mechanism.
Fig. 3 shows the component parts of the lock separated.
Referring more particularly to the drawing in detail 10 indicates the door casing, the door being indicated at 11 and provided with the usual recess 12 for the reception of the lock casing. In accordance with my invention the lock casing is of cylindrical formation as indicated at 13, the casing being coextensive in length with the length of the recess 12, and in which casing is arranged the component parts of the lock mechanism.
The lock mechanism embodies a sliding bolt 14 movable within the casing 13 and adapted to be projected beyond one eXtremity thereof into an opening or recess 15 in the door casing 10 as clearly shown in Fig. 1. The bolt also operates through a member 16 which is of substantially cylindrical formation, and having the major portion of its length snugly fitted within the casing 13 adjacent the forward extremity thereof, the member 16 serving to guide the bolt 14 in its movemen s to an active or inactive post Specification of Letters Patent.

The lugs 21 provide bearings fora collar 22 which is fitted between the lugs forrotation, the collar 22 being provided with an opening 23 of rec tangular formation in cross section for the reception of a stem 24 of similar cross sectional configuration, the stem 24 forming part of a key having an enlarged finger gripping portion 25. The stem 24 passes through the openings 23 in the collar, and also through alined openings 26 in the casing 13 which is disposed in registry with the opening 23. The stem 24 is suitably moimted for rotation, and it is manifest that when the manipulating portion 25 is turned in one or the other direction to rotate the stem 24, a similar movement will be imparted to the collar 22 as the latter is fixed upon the stem for rotation therewith. The stem 24 is provided with an enlargement 27 which is snugly fitted within one wall of the recess 10 as clearly illustrated.
Embracing the collar 22 medially thereof, and also secured thereto in any suitable manner is a ring 28 which as shown in Fig. 2 is interposed between the lugs 21 of the arm 20. The ring 28 is provided with an ofiset eye member 29 in which is fitted the angular extremities 30 of a substantially U- shaped wire yoke 31 the cross piece 32 of which is passed loosely through an opening 33 in the bolt 14, whereby the yoke is swingin-gly associated with the bolt and also pivotally connected with the ring 28. Manifestly when the stem 24 is rotated in one direction, the collar 22 being fixed upon the stem for rotation therewith is also moved to retract the bolt 14 from the recess 15, through the instrumentality of the yoke 31. Again should the stem be rotated 1n an opposite direction, the movement of the enumerated parts are reversed to extend the bolt 14 to an active position. It will now be noted, that the stem 24 is ace tuated only from the inside of the door, and if desired the key in its entirety including the stem 24 can be removably fitted in place, so that subsequent to the adjustment of the bolt 14 to either an active or an inactive position, the Key can be removed from the door. The mechanism is not only simple in construction, and positive in operation, but from the disclosure of Fig. 3 it will be observed that the component parts of the mechanism can be quickly and easily assembled, or disassembled as the occasion may require, subsequent to the extraction of the casing 13 from the recess 12.
WVhile it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that what is herein shown and described constitutes one embodiment of the invention, which I do not consider restrictive, and that such changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What is claimed is 1. A lock embodying a casing, a bolt slidable therein, and adapted to be projected said bolt reciprocates, an arm projecting K rearwardly from said guiding element,
spaced apertured lugs rising from said arm,
and constituting bearings, a rotatable element extended through said lugs, a collar fixed upon the rotatable element and journaled between said bearings, and a connection between said collar and the bolt whereby the latter is reciprocated upon rotation of the said element in a reverse direction.
2. A door lock embodying a casing adapted to be fitted within a mortise in said door, a bolt arranged to slide within the casing, a hollow tubular member closing one end of the casing and constituting a guide for the bolt, an arm projecting rearwardly from said guide, said arm belng wholly disposed within the casing and spaced therefrom, and means supported upon the extremity of said arm and associated with said bolt for controlling the movements thereof to an active and inactive position.
