Description

tint sa'r SAMUEL A. LEAVITT, OF APPLETON, WISCONSIN.
PAINT COMPOSITION.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. LnAvrI'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, in the county of Outagamie and State of lVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paint Compositions; and I do declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to paint compositions and more particularly to that class of paints which are designed to be applied to surfaces of water pipes or steam pipes. This composition provides paint which will not become scalded and scale off as in the majority of paints in use at the present time.
.To this end, my invention consists of the following named ingredients mixed in the proportions specified herewith:
118% ounces of litharge,
15% plaster of Paris, 125% tripoli,
7% lamp black.
These ingredients are thoroughly compounded in a dry state after which they are quartered by weight and to each quarter thereof is added a. thoroughly mixed quart of raw linseed oil. To every gallon of this mixture approximately a tablespoon and a half of barytes is added. This composition with the ingredients, owing to the presence of the lamp black, will result in a black mixture. The color may be varied, however, by the elimination of the lamp black and a substitution of any pigment to produce the color desired.
It will be understood that I do not limit I Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 8, 1917.
Patented Sept. 4:, 1917.
Serial No. 153,429.
the proportions may be varied to suit indi vidual conditions. I have found, however, that a mixture of the ingredients in the proportions specified above produce the best results.
What I desire to protect by Letters-Patent and claimas my invention is 1. A paint composition as described having a base of litharge and in combination with a composition composed of silicious limestone, barytes, and a liquid vehicle therefor.
2. A paint composition as described having litharge as its base and in combination with plaster of Paris, tripoli and barytes, and a liquid vehicle for said composition.
3. A paint composition as described comprising a mixture of litharge, tripoli, plaster of Paris, linseed oil, and a coloring pigment.
4. A paint composition as described composed of one hundred eighteen and fiveeighths ounces of litharge, fifteen and threeeighths ounces of plaster of Paris, twelve and three-sixteenth ounces of tripoli, seven and three-fourth ounces of lamp black, one and one-half tablespoon of barytes and linseed oil.
5. A paint composition as described comprising litharge, plaster of Paris, tripoli and lamp black mixed by weight, one quart of linseed oil added to each quarter by weight of'the said mixture and a tablespoon and one-half of barytes added to each gallon of said mixture.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL A. LEAVITT.
