BARBERS SHEARS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 28, 1917.
Application filed February 16, 1917. Serial No. 148,979.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES V. GENovnsE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brewster, New York, have invented a new and useful Barbers Shears, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in barber's shears, the object being to render the same quiet.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the shears.
Fig. 2 is a cross section on the line 22 relatively enlarged.
l2 are the handles having the usual blades, 34 are the passages in the handles 12 for the finger and the thumb re spectively. 5 is a wire spring suitably secured to the handle 2 at one end, the other end sliding in a groove in said handle, said spring extending longitudinally of said handle. This spring 5 is suitably arched so that the force of impact in closing the shears will be cushioned and the noise deadened, the arched spring 5 yielding sufficiently to accomplish that result. If desired,.the edge of the handle 1 facing the spring 5 may also be flattened or grooved where it engages the cushioning spring. It is obvious that the spring 5 may be carried by the handle 1 instead of by the handle 2 without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention.
I claim:
A pair of shears including two handles, a bowed metallic buffer spring carried wholly by one of said handles and arranged longitudinally along the inner edge thereof, the middle portion of said spring being spaced away from said handle to permit the same to yield when the other handle is pressed into contact therewith, said other handle being movable toward and away from said spring, and means to maintain both ends of the spring in operative relation to the handles.
JAMES V. GEN OVESE.
