Description
E. F. FRENCH.
Improvement in Drop-leaf Attachment for Sewing Machine Tables.
.No. 123,818. PatentedFeb.20,1872. 11 6014. 1
PATENT OFFICE EVELYN F. FRENCH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT lN DROP-LEAF ATTACHMENTS FOR SEWING-MACHINE TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,818, dated February 20, 1872.
Specification describing a new and Improved Drop-Leaf Attachment to Sewing-Machines, invented by EVELYN F. FRENCH, of New York City, in the county and State of "New York.
Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved drop-leaf attachment. Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention has for its object to provide a drop-leaf applicable to sewing-machine and other tables of suitable kind, and nicely fitted to whichever table or kind of table'it may be applied. The invention consists in the application to the devices which fasten the leaf to the table of a pair of hinged springs that insure the flush position of the leaf when swung a a, directly with the table A or with a cross- E E are jointed piece, D, thereto secured.
with a braces connecting the under side of B pendant post F on A.
The springs O are so hinged that when the leaf is suspended vertically, as by dotted lines in Fig. 1, its outer face will be in line with the edge of the table thus giving a uniform appearance. When the 1eaf is swung up the springs willbrace and hold it up, and cause it to rise flush with the top of the table, the jointed brace E insuring the support and locking the leaf.
In practice I propose to unite the pendant I with the cross-piece D, and to hinge the spring 0 to the latter, so that all parts will thus be united with the leaf, which can be put on market with its appendages, and applied by merely screwing the cross-piece to the under side of the table. However, the springs constitute the main part of the invention, as by their aid the leaf is caused to turn up to the top of the table and be sustained flush and firm.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The springs O 0 applied to the leaf B and hinged to the table A, substantially as herein shown and described. I
2. The combination of the cross-piece D and pendant F with the braces E, springs 00, and
leaf B, all arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
