To all/)hom it may/concern:

Be it known that I, Fiiirz llrIiLli, a citizen of the .German Empire, residing at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and- State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxesor Containers7 of which the following is a specifi-` and the said side being centrally slitted from `the said slot or opening to vprovide resilient` or flexible wings, theslot providing means l whereby the finger of the operator may be inserted within the box to grasp one of the articles, and the resilient or flexible wings provide means whereby an article may be withdrawn from the box through theiopenf4 ing and through the slit dividingthe wings.

With the above and other objects inview the improvement resides in the construction, combination and` arrangement of `parts set forth inthe following specification and Vfalling 'within the scope ofthe appended claims.

I construct my improved box preferably from a substantially rectangular strip of cardboard 1, the same having its opposite ends provided with extensions forming flaps 2 `and 3 and these ilaps are adapted to be folded. over each other to provide the top of the box. `The rectangular strip `of cardboard `is lscored longitudinally, as atfl, in a line with the opposite edges of the flaps 2 and 3 and the said strip or blank is slit-ted transversely at equal points from its center,

as indicated bythe numerals 5--5, and the body orblank is scored transversely, as* at 6, in a line with the said slits 5. The portions of the blank outward ofthe longitudi-` nal scorelines Ll are adapted to be bent inwardly to provide thesides 7 of the` box,

The box, as stated, is adapted to receive articles disposed longitudinally therein, such as matches, tooth picks or the like, and such articles may be arranged in the box by opening the same angularly through the opening 1l bringing said articles to contact with the top 2 of the box and then forcing the opposite or lower ends of the said articles through the opening provided by the slit 12, causing the wings to move inwardly. To remove the articles the operation is reversed; that is, the nger of the operator is inserted through the opening 11, grasping one or more of the articles, canting the same to bring the lower end thereof central of the box or in a line with the slit 12, causing the wings or doors rio.: N

It is, of cours eto be understood that the device may provide a receptacle or casing for ordinary match boxes, and in Fig. 8 of the drawings I have'illustrated the device y as constructed ofsome flexible material, such I as-leather, thesamje, at one of its ends, being ment it will be noted/that the matchv box e' provided with inner and outer flaps a and b respectively, the` inner flap having a headed stud c thereon to be received in a suitable clasp Z in the outer iap b. By this arrangemay be inserted or removed from within the receptacle.' .Y

In Fig. 9 the device isillustrated as constructed of metal and has one of its ends provided with a hinged lid f having its outer edge formed with a iiange g that may be provided with an indentation to receive a stud L ',upony the side4 of the device, and whereby the match box i may be positioned r vwithin or removed from the device.

From the abovedescription, taken Ain conl nection with theaccompanying drawings, the

simplicity of the device, as well as the ad- .vantages thereof will, itfis thought,be perfectly apparent to those skilled in the art to which such` invention appertains without further detailed description.

I-Iaving thus described the invention, what I claim is:

1. A box or container having one of its faces provided with an opening, the said face being slitted centrally from one of its corners to the said opening and its said corner Slitted transversely from the longitudinal slit to provide the surfaces between the slits and the opening with yieldable wings or doors.

2. A box or container having one of its faces provided with an opening and its said face being slitted longitudinally and centrally from ,the said lopening to one of thc corners of the box or container, and said corner being slitted in opposite directions for an equal distance from the longitudinal slit, and a reinforcing element for the slit portions of the box.

3. A box or container constructed of cardboard or the like having one of its faces provided with an opening, the said face being slitted centrally from the opening to one of the corners of the box, the referred to corner being slitted laterally with respect to the first mentioned slit, and the face of the box, from the terminal of the last mentioned slit being scored angularly toward the opening.

4. A box orcontainer constructed of cardboard or other flexible material having one of its faces f provided Awith a rectangular opening and its said face slitted centrally from the opening to one of the corners of the box, said corner having a longitudinal slit, the center of which intersects the first mentioned slit, a reinforcing element for the slit portions of the box, the box from its corner slit being scored angularly toward the opening, and a spring member arranged transversely in the box and disposed to overlie each of the referred to scores, as and for the purpose set forth.
