Application filed February 2?, 1917; Serial No. 151,327.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAims L. Cum a citizen of the United States, residin at Cordell, in the county of Washita and tate 6 of Oklahoma, have invented certain-new and useful Improvements in Tables and Coverings Therefor; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as 10 will. enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
reference being had 'to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures 0 reference marked thereon, which form a This invent'on relates to new and useful improvements in coverings for tables, and especially to a reel of paper which is mounted sothat, when a .section is soiled, the, paper may be reeled up andpresent a fresh coverlng.
The invention consists further of various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be herei nafter fully described-shown inthe accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
.My invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 2 is a top plan view;
Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal view, and.v
Egrspective view of the I Fig. 4 is a detail oh the paper is reeled.
roller and parts on w the drawings by letter,-A designates the frame of a table mounted upon suitable legs having casters and "provided with a top ed to contain paper'to form a cover for t e tabletop.
. Each chamber has a hinged lid C which closes the same "and when 1n closed relation,
has its upper surface flush with the. upper "4.5-surfacez'of the table top D. A'shaft N is journaled in the walls of one table and has 'squaredendsdesigned to engage-squareout lined apertures Oin'the cylindrical blocks O whichare fitted within theends ofthe 0 shell 0 I Each of said blocksU isprovided with a in j 0 projecting therefrom and which is a aptedto engage intermediate the, edgeofthe-shell O and forming means for rotating-the shell upon which the paper E 5. is adapted to wind from the shaft F .j ur-' naled-in the other compartment at the o I or 'Figure'l is an elevation ofthe apparatus. g
' upon the shaft F and placed underneath the roller P andlover the lid'C and the table top, thence over the shaft P and its end Reference now being had to the details of Each end of ,the' frame is provided side wal end of the table. Said .paper passes underneath the roller P at one end of the table and over a similar roller P in the other compartment. A ratchet wheel X, shown in the disassembled view Fig. 4, is fitted to one squared end of the shaft N and is holding the paper taut upon the table top.
-A paper tightening device, designated by letter- S, is provided upon an arm W to WlllGh is connected one end of'a spring l o the other end being fastened to the wal the chamber. Said. tightening device S is adapted to bear against the surface ofthe reel to bear frictionally' upon the surface of the paper as it-is unwound fromthe reel upon the shaft F.
A suitable beading M is fastened to the edge of the table to and extends preferably the length of. the ta e, including the cham-- bered portion. A or L has a cylindrical portion L provided with a squared outlined portion L in itsend, adapted to receive one end of the squared end of the shaft N, while the cylindrical portion li as' abearing in the a recess L of the plate L In operation, the roll of paper is placed fastened to the shaft N. As the shell is kept taut bythe tension means and the ratchet and pawl described.
7 By the-provision of an ap aratus em-. bodying the features of" my will be noted that a simp e and efiicient ,me'ans-is afforded whereby. afresh covering for the table may be provided by simply 'u'nreeling the paper and winding .thefsame in the manner described. I
invention, it
What I claim to benew is,
compartments one at each end, a shaft jo'ur .naled in one compartment and upon whicha reel; of paper.-=1s mounted, hinged lids In combination .-w'ith "a .t blehaving' formin the top of each'compartment and v fiushw1th the table top, with slight spaces intervening between the lids and the end of the compartment, rollers journaled in. the s of the compartment underneath the ends of the lids, the paper I from the reel adapted to pass underneath one of said rollers and over the lids and table intermediate the same and in contact with the said rollers, a shaft journaled in the other compartment, a cylindrical block having a lug projecting therefrom, and. an an-,
gular outlined opening engaged by said shaft, a split cylindrical shell fittedover said block, projecting between the edges of the shell, and about which shell the paper is adapted to wind, as setforth.
2. In combination with a table havingcompartments, one at each end a'shaft journaled'in one compartment an u on which a'reel of paper is mounted, h1nged lids formin the top of each compartment and flush with the table top, with slight spaces intervening between the swin lids and the end of the compartments, ro lers journaled in the said walls of the compartments underneath the swin' ends of the lids,
mammothe paper of the reel adapted to pass underneath one of said rollers and over the lids and table intermediate the same and in contact with the other roller, a shaft j ournaled in the other compartment, a cylindrical block having "a lug projecting therefrom,
and-having an angular outlined opening engaged by said shaft, a split cylindrical shell fitted over said block, said lug projecting between the edges of the shell, and about JS L. CLINE'. Witnesses: N. BOATRIGHT,
