Description

A. NELSON.
FASTENER FOR WINKERS. APPLICATION m5!) AuG.2. ms.
Patented July 31, 1917 Inferdor:
- Abdel Nelson @WMM Q i215 AHOKVCQJ.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for UNITED STATES AXEL NELSON, OF GROVE CITY, MINNESOTA.
FASTENER. FOR WINKERS.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
Application filed August 2, 1916. Serial No. 112,713.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AXEL NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grove City, in the county of Meeker and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Winkers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to fasteners for winkers and hasfor its object to provide a fastener for quickly and securely attaching the brace strap to the winker of a harness.
In common practice the brace strap of a winker is usually sewed in place. When such a strap breaks it is almost impossible for the average person to repair. the harness, due to the difliculty in properly sewing the carts together. My invention may be applied to the harness to perform the same function and is easily and quickly applied in a manner to be presently described.
The full objects and advantages of my invention will appear in connection with the detailed description thereof and are particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, illustrating the applica tion of my invention in one form,
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a winker and brace strap with my fastener in place thereon. Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the parts shown in Fig. 1 taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan sectional View taken on line 33 of Fig. 2. Figs. 4 and 5 are perspective views of the separate parts of the fastener.
In Fig. 1 is shown an ordinary winker 10 provided with the usual brace strap 11. Strap 11 is secured to the winker 10 by means of my improved fastener, which comprises two members 12 and 13 shown in detail in Figs. 4 and 5. Member 12 is flat and rectangular and has the upper corners at 14 rounded off. Member 13 is provided with 'a segmental annular portion 15 adapted to surround the strap 11, from which issues a fiat portion 16 offset from the back of the portion 15 as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The portion 16 which is in the form of a head may be made of any ornamental design desired.
In applying the device the member 13 is placed on the front of the winker and the member 12 on the rear, the strap 11 occupying the space between the portion 15 of member 13 and the member 12. The whole is then riveted in place by rivets 17 and 18 which pass through registering holes 19 and 20 in members 12 and 13 provided for this purpose.
It will be noted in Fig. 3 that the portion 15 of member 13 is open at the rear and does not completely surround strap 11, thus permitting said strap to be tightly clamped between said members. Since strap 11 is 'usually made somewhat thicker than the winker proper, the offset of the head 16 makes the device lie snugly in place and hence does not detract from the appearance of the harness.
I claim:
1. A fastener for winkers comprising a flat member adapted to be positioned on one side of a winker and brace strap, a curved member formed to fit both the winker and brace strap and having its edges abutting against said flat member, and means for securing both of said members together to secure the strap to the winker.
2. A fastener for winkers comprising a flat member adapted to be positioned on one side of a winker and a round winker strap, a second member having a flat portion adapted to engage the winker, and a semicylindrical portion adapted to surround a portion of the winker strap with its edges abutting against said fiat member, and means for securing said plate and member together to secure the strap to the winker.
3. A fastener for winkers comprising a flat inflexible member adapted to be positioned on one side of a" winker and round winker strap, a second member of inflexible characteristics having a flat portion adapted to engage the winker and a semicylindrical portion adapted to surround a portion of the winker strap with its edges abutting against said plate, and means for securing said flat member and said second member together to secure the strap to the winker.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AXEL NELSON.
