Description
STATES IMPROVEMENT IN LADIES WAIST-BELTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 123,471, dated February 6, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. FLAGG, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Ladies Waist- Belts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a i'ull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this speciiication, and to the letters and 1i gures of reference marked thereon.

This invention has relation to belts for ladies7 wear; and the novelty consists in making a belt of card-board or stitf paper and covering the same on the outside with grained or pebbled muslin to imitate morocco or other kinds of leather.
In the manufacture of this belt I cut a strip of card-board or stili' paper, A, of the required length and width, and on the outer side 1 paste a narrow strip of grained or pebbled inuslin, B, designed in imitation of morocco or other kinds of leather. I cut the muslin a little wider than the card-board, and turn its edges over against the inner side of the card-board. I then paste over the inner side a strip of paper or cloth to cover said edges, and render the innerside of the belt, smooth and neat.
To the ends of the belt I attach the hook and loop-plates of a buckle, marked A and B', respectively, and provide the belt with the flaps c to give it the necessaryT finish to render it similar in appearance to areal leather belt. I secure the buckle-plates to the ends of the belt by means of the cloth loops d, the ends otA which are pasted to the sides of the belt and the loop part passed over the metallic loops d', projecting from the backs of the buckleplates. The llaps c I attach to the ends ofthe belt, and secure them to the buckle-plates by strips of cloth e. These iiaps are made of cardboard and pebbled cloth, in the saine manner as the belts.
What I claim as my invention, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a ladys waist-belt, constructed of card-board or stiff paper, covered on the outside with grained or fpebbled muslin, in imitation of leather, the
edges of said inuslin being turned over the edges of the paper or board and gummed down on the inside7 as specified.
