TOILET-B OWL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2%, 1917..
Application filed March 3, 1917. Serial No. 152,244.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MICHAEL J. CARROLL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Toilet-Bowl, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has for its object to provide a toilet bowl having in its side a well in communication with the interior of the bowl at and above the water seal, so that a disinfectant or germ destroyer may be introduced into the bowl through the communication above the water seal, and the disinfectant may be fed to the bowl through the communication at the water seal.
Additional objects of the invention will appear in the following specification, in which the preferred form of the invention is disclosed.
In the drawings similar reference characters denote similar parts in all the views, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation illustrating a toilet bowl provided with my improvement; and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. l.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the toilet bowl 5 provided with my improvement, is preferably constructed in one piece, with a well 6 at its side which is in communication with the water seal 7 of the toilet bowl through an opening 8, the well 6 being also in communication with the toilet bowl above the water seal through an opening 9. The bottom of the well 6 is below the top of the water seal so that a disinfectant 10 which may be introduced into the well 6 through the opening 9 will be normally submerged when disposed at the bottom of the well, and will be slowly fed to the bowl through the opening 8.
When the toilet closet is operated an additional supply of water will be introduced into the well 6, since a portion of the water directed into the toilet bowl through the annular opening 11 will find its way into the well 6 through the opening 9.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A toilet bowl having a water supply rim and a side which extends downwardly and inwardly therefrom, there being a well in the said side of the toilet bowl and there being two openings in the side one affording communication between the bottom of the well and the interior of the toilet bowl and the other affording communication between the top of the well and the interior of the toilet bowl below the water supply rim, the last mentioned opening serving to permit of the introduction of a disinfectant into the well from the interior of the toilet bowl which disinfectant will be watered by the passage of water down the said side of the toilet bowl from the water supply rim and through the opening at the top of the well.
2. A toilet bowl having a water seal and a water supply rim and a side which extends downwardly and inwardly therefrom, there being a well in the said side of the toilet bowl and there being two openings on the side one alfording communication between the bottom of the well and the interior of the toilet bowl adjacent the water seal and the other alfording communication between the top of the well and the interior of the toilet bowl below the water supply rim, the last mentioned opening serving to permit of the introduction of a disinfectant into the well from the interior of the toilet bowl which disinfectant will be watered by the passage of water down the said side of the toilet bowl from the water supply rim and through the opening at the top of the well.
3. A toilet bowl having a water supply rim and a side which extends downwardly and inwardly therefrom, there being a well in the said side of the toilet bowl and there being two oblong horizontally disposed openings in the side one affording communication between the bottom of the well and the interior of the toilet bowl and the other affording communication between the top of the well and the interior of the toilet bowl below the water supply rim, the last mentioned opening serving to permit of the introduction of a disinfectant into the well from the interior of the toilet bowl which disinfectant will be watered by the passage of water down the said side of the toilet bowl from the water supply rim and through the opening at the top of the well.
MICHAEL JOSEPH CARROLL.
