Description

A. W. HILDING. PULLEY CLOTHES LINE FULLER. APPLICATION man Mov. 7. 191s.
Lzwgw, Patented Ju1y24,1917.
ALBERT W. HILDING, OF AMSI'ON, CONNECTICUT.
PULLEYCLOTHESLINE FULLER.
Application filed November 7, 1916.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known 'that I, ALBERT W. HILDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amston, in the county of Tolland, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulley-Clothes-Line Pullers; and I do hereby declare the followlng to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in clothes lines, and particularly to devices for pulling or manipulating the pulley clothes lines.
One object of the present invention is to provide a simple and cheap device of this character which will be effective and durable in operation.
Another object is to provide a puller for a pulley clothes line which will firmly grip the line and prevent any great sagging of the line, and one by means of which the line can be more easily and quickly run out or drawn in.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a clothes line puller made in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the device.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line lof Fig. 3.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a casing which is provided with a removable side plate 11, to permit access to the interior of the casing. Mounted in the casing, and extending transversely in parallel relation, are two shafts 12 and 13, on the former of which is secured a smooth-faced rubber covered roller 14e, while on the latter is secured a corrugated rubber faced roller 15, the faces of said rollers bearing frictionally against each other. On one end of the shaft 12 is a pinion 16, and meshing with this pinion and mounted on the corresponding end of the shaft 13, is a second pinion 17. The shaft 13 extends through one side of the casing and has detachably mounted thereon a crank handle 18, which is adapted to be grasped to Specification of Letters Patent.

impart motion to the rollers. Both ends of the shaft 13 are disposed in slots 31 formed in the sides of the casing so that vertical movement thereof will take place when the screw, to be later described, is turned upwardly. In the front curved wall of the casing, and in a line opposite the point of contact of the rollers, is an opening 19, and at a point below the lower roller, and in the front of the casing, is a second opening 20. Through these openings the upper and lower laps of the pulley line 21 are adapted to enter the casing, respectively.
Threaded into the bottom of the casing, directly beneath the lower roller 13, is a thumb screw 22, the upper end of which can ries a U-shaped spring 23, the arms of which have notches in their upper ends for the reception of the end portions of the said shaft 13. By moving the screw inwardly, the spring will be forced into firm contact with the shaft to increase the tension between the rollers, and thus hold the line 21, which passes therebetween, tightly.
In the rear of the casingis a transverse shaft 24, and mounted on this shaft is a pulley 25, of the grooved type, and around which the line is passed, as clearly shown.
The top and bottom of the rear portion of the casing are extended rearwardly, as at 26, and formed with vertical openings 27. To the wall 28, of the house, or other building, are attached the vertically alined eye members 29, and extended through the apertured ends of the casing and through the eye members is a vertical pivot pin or bolt 30. rThere is thus provided a novel means for supporting the casing on the wall, and one whereby the casing can swing horizontally according to the direction in which the line extends. The removable side plate 11 permits of ready access to the interior of the casing for the purpose of repairs or adjustments.
It will thus be seen that when the handle is turned in either direction, the line will be drawn between the rollers and around the pulley.
What is claimed is:
A device for pulling an endless clothes line comprising a pair of contacting and intergeared rollers, a third roller disposed in rear of one of the irst rollers and slightly above the axis thereof, means for moving the said first roller toward and away from the other of the first rollers, and a cable having one lap disposed between the first In testimony whereof, I aiiix my signarollers and the other lap engaging the lower ture, in the presence of two witnesses.
` Side Of the l'st roller, and the nterme" W diate portion of said cable being engaged around the said third roller, the upper face Witnesses:
of said third roller being in a direct line H. CLINTON PORTER, with the point of Contact of the rst rollers. ETHEL H. PORTER.
