Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. BLEss- ING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waynesboro, in the county of Franklin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window- Shade Strips, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to window shades and particularly to a strip secured along the bottom edge of the shade.

The object of the present invention is to provide a strip which may be cheaply manufactured and easily secured to the bottom edge of a window shade, without the use of stitching.

Another obj ect of the invention is to provide a window shade with a light and durable strip in order to prevent breakage, and to increase the wear of the curtain by preserving the strip.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of a strip preferably of metal folded to form parallel side bars, a flange formed along the edge of the said bars for contact with the folded portions of the window shade and a method of folding the shade so as to entirely conceal the strip 125nd be clamped securely .between the parallel ars.

In providing a window shade with the it is necessary to fold the curtain and stitch the same in order to form a pocket for the reception of the strip, and it has been found that this method has Chief among these disadvantages is'the fact that the stitching weakens the curtain and causes it to tear along the line of stitching, and also the wooden strip is frail and is often broken causing the curtain to tear and preventing its further use.

The present invention aims to overcome all of these disadvantages, and to this end there is provided a metal strip 1 bent longitudinally as at 2 -to form parallel side bars 3. These bars 3 are further bent inwardly along their edge to'provide inturned flanges 4l to present a rounded edge to the curtain in order to prevent the side bars from cutting or injuring the same along its folded portions. The curtain is shown at 5, and is clamped between the bars 3, and is folded upon itself as at 6 to provide a portion which entirely surrounds and conceals the strip 1. The end of the portion 7 is folded over one of the flanges 4: as shown at 8 and projects inwardly between the bars` 3 as shown at 9, in order securely held and prevented from raveling. The integrally turned flanges l also serve to space apart the side bars 3, the space between the side bars below these flanges serving to accommodate the folded portion and end of the curtain.

After the shade is secured to the strip in the above described manner, the strip is tightly clamped to bring the parallel bars 3 together, and if desired a hollow rivet 10 may be then secured within an opening provided in the strip for the purpose of securing a cord, ring, tassel or other device thereto.
