Specification of Letters Patent.
Fatentedduly tt, 19t?.
Application led May 20, 1916. Serial N o. 98,718.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, RUBMRIVERA, a citizen of the Republic of Salvador, and a resident of Sonsonate, in theA Republic of Salvador, Central America, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hydraulic Motors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n hydraulic motors, and it consists in the com binations, constructions, and arrangements of parts herein described and claimed;
The object of my invention is to provide a hydraulic motor which is simple in construction, but which is highly elcientowing to a novel arrangement of the valve mecha' nism -in which the shifting of the valves to turn the motive uid first in one `direction and then in the other is accomplished automatically and instantaneously. 4
A further object of my invention is to provide a valve shifting means in whicha Weight is actuated in such a manner that by its momentum the valve is given a quick throw.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated 1n the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which# Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device, the cylinder and valve chest being shown 1n section. y f
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the parts in a diferent position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view. Y
Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail side view, certain of the parts bein'g shown in section.
Fig. 5 is a section'V along the line 5-5 of Fi lgig. 6 is a section along the line 6-6 of Fig.
Fig. 7 is av section along the line 7-7 of Fig. 4, and
Fig.' 8 is a section along the line 8-3 of Fig. 4.
In carrying out my invention I have provided a base 1 upon which is mounted a frame 2 which bears a cylinder 3 and a valve `chest 4. Between the cylinder and the valve chest are the passages 5 and 6. An exhaust passage is shown at 7.
Disposed Within the the other 'can be if the guide member 28. A
cylinder isfa pis' ton 8 having a piston rod 9 which extends lthrough one end of the cylinder. This rod 9 1s secured to a cross head `l0 which is provided with a slot 11 running longitudinally v position of vone stopA member with respect to f adjusted. 'llhe stop inembers are provided with rollersf12" and 13x respectively.
At the opposite end of the cross head 10 l i from the piston rod 9 is a pitman 15 which Y is connected to a gear 16. The latter is on a shaft 17 and is arranged to mesh with a pinion 18 on a shaft 19 which bears a drive pulley 2O` at one end and a ily wheel 21 at the other. rlhe shaft 19 is supported at the toby an upright 22. isposed ,between the uprights 2 and 22 1s a support 23 at whose upper end is pivotally mounted a rod 24. rlhe lower vend of this rod is pivotall)T connected at 25 With an arm 26 which extends through a slot 27 in a guide plate 28, the latter Lbearing two stopmembers 29. rlhe arm26 is provided with a collar 30 at one end, and with a slidable bearing plate'31 which rests on the top spring 32 sur'- rounds the arm 26 and bears at oneend upon the collar 30, and at theother end upon the bearing plate 31, the bearing surface of the latter being curved or convex, as shown in the drawings. 'i
As will be seen from the drawings, the rod 24 passes through the slot 11 inthe cross head 10. rlhe rod is provided above its fulcrum 33-with a weight 34. which may be adjusted to the desired position along the rod 24. As will beI seen from Figs. l and 2, the
`valve chest 4 has a slide valve 35 Vwhich is operated by means of a valve stem 36. The latter is connected to a block 37 which is pro` vided with a slot 38 through which the rod 24 extends. 'llhe opposite end of theblock 37 has connected to it a rod 39 which extends through a guide lug 40 on theupright 22 and which is provided with a` nut 41 at its end for limiting the movement of the valve stem.
From the foregoing description of the va rious thereo may be readily understood.'
Water or other suitable motive Huid is parts of the device, the operation admitted through a vpipe 42 by opening a Y valve 43. lln the position shown in Fig. 1
the fluid will pass into the passage and thenceinto one end of the cylinder -3 and will force thepiston 8 toward the right in Fig. 1. The movement of the cross head 10 Will cause the roller 12X ofth'e stop member 12 to force the -ro'd 24 to the right. This will tend to compress the spring 32. When the rod 24 passes its central position, that is to say the vposition in which the arm 26 and the rod 24 are in alinement, the lower lend of the rod will be suddenly thrown tothe left, due tothe expansion of the spring 32. This wllcause a sudden shifting of the valve 35 from the position shown inFig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2. The motive iiuid will now enter the cylinder through the passage 6,
' thus causing themoving of the piston from the right to the left in' Fig. 2, and causing the discharge of the motive' fluid through the exhaust 7. v The movement of the piston rod 9 toward the left in Fig. 2 will gradually force the rod 24 into a position in which the 'arm 26 and the rod 24 will be in alinement,
when further movement will be caused byr the sudden expansion of the spring 32 and the engagement of the lower end of the rod 24 with the block 37, thereby7 causing the shifting of the valve 35 toits original posi-` tion. Y
The instantaneous shifting of the valve is due ina large part to the momentum of the weight 34 which is adjustable along the rod 24. The power delivered by the pitman 15 is transmitted bythe crank gear 16 to the shaft 19 through the medium of the gear or pinion 18, and may be used for any suitable purpose.
The throw of the valve 35,'as stated, may be limited in one direction by the position of the nut 41, and in the other direction by -stop 36x, on the end of the Valve 35. It will also be noted that the arm 26 rocks on the bearing 31 and that the lower end of the arm 26 has its movement limited by the stop members 29.
