This invention relates to improvements in valve nieehanisni. for supplying and discharging water to and troni bath-tubs, washbowls. sinks. and the like.
The principal objeet ot' the invention is to provide means whereby water from snpply pipes may be eoudueted through the waste tube and waste opening. into a vessel without prodneing noise or splashings and thereby mixing the salue; and whereby the water in a vessel may be diseharged to the f-'ewert through the ,same passage: and the walls oi" the vessel may be free ot perloration and obst rnetions `Ior eouvenienre in eleaning the saine. lnnther obieet of the invention to provide automaticA means for preventing water from overilowing the vessel and autoinzuie means Jfor eleaning the waste passages. leading from the vessel. These and other objects and advantages of the invention will he fully explained in the following specification; and its novel features and arrangement of the different parts will be fully pointed out in the claims.

The outer ends of said tubes are connected with the supply valve easing (1. by means ot lip unions 7, or in any desired manner. Suitable supply pipes S. are provided and connected with the supply valve easing 6. and secured thereto by means` of lip unions 9, or in any desired manner. (see Fig. 2,) said supply pipes communicate with the interior of the supply valve easing G, and with the hot and cold water supply. Suitable supply valves l0, are seated within the casing 6, (see Fig. 2,) and suitable stems 11,
secured to said valves and extended through stuiiing-hoxes 12, to any desired distance, above the same, said stems being provided with knobs 13, for operating the salne in opening and closing the valves.
In this eonstrnction I have shown an or dinaryr compress valve, but any form of supply valve may be used, without departing from the principles of the invention, said eonstruetion showing means for connecting with both the hot and cold Water supply.
In the lower wall of the Waste valve casing 2', (see Figs. 1, 2, and 7,) is provided an Il (l walls thereof in any desired manner, preferably by means of a slip joint connection 16. rl'he said drain pipe is arranged to connect with the sewer, into which the waste water is conducted. Between the openings 3, in the walls of the casing 2, (see Figs. 1 and 7,) is provided an opening 17, having a horizontally disposed tube 18, com inuuirating therewith and secured to the wall of said opening, by means of a slip joint connection 19, or in any other desired manner, the said tube is provided with an inelosed end Q0, and an opening in its upper wall 21, and a vertical extension 22, extended above the opening, said extension having a peripheral flange. 23, thereon for registering with an opening 24, in the bottom of a vessel A peripheral flanged nipple 2G, is extended through the opening Q4, in the vessel and is screw-threaded to the vertical extension 2;). Thus supporting thc tube 1S, in position and affording communication between the vessel 25, the supply valve casings I3, and the drain pipe 15, whereby the water from the supply may be conducted into the vessel and drain pipe without noise or splashing. ln its passage through the tube 1S. the hot and cold water will be thoroughly mixed before entering the vessel and the hot water being conducted through the bottom of the vessel. lessons the danger of sealding.
A\ suitable strainer 27, (see Figs. 1, and 4.) is provided, having a sere\\'threaded mening in its center, said .strainer may be east integral with the flange nipple 2b, or otherwise joined to the nipple in any desired manner. Said strainer is for the purpose of preventing articles of value from entering the tube 1S, and also for the purpose of registering with and supporting a detachable stand pipe 29, the said stand pipe is formed of a tube having a valve 30, arranged therein for regulating the How of water, and having a nozzle 31, secured above the valve for discharging the same. The tube is secured to a base plate 32, and registers with an opening 33, in said plate (see Fig. 1,) which plate is provided with a transverse bar 34, extended across said opening, and a screw-threaded stud 35, rigidly secured to and extended below said bar. The said stand pipe is held in position by screwing the stud 35, into the opening 28, in the strainer 27, and the outer margins of the base plate and strainer is provided with a ground or gasket joint for preventing the water from entering the vessel and for directing it into the stand pipeJ for the purpose of spraying or filling portable vessels.
In the opening 17, of the casing 2, is provided alateral extension 38, projecting into the casing. The said extension is formed integral with the side walls of said casing,
and otherwise spaced apart therefrom, forming chambers 39, and 40, and the supplyY openings 3, communicate with said chamber 40. The water introduced through openings 3, will enter chamber 40, and pass through the tube 18, into the vessel ,Tn the upper wall of the waste valve casing is provided an opening 43, (see Figs. l, 2, and 7,) a tube 44, is secured to and extended an)y desired distance above` laid easing. A stem 45, provided with a knob 4G. is extended through the tube 44, and opening 43, and lsecured to a waste valve 4l. (see Figs. 1, and 2,) which is seat-ed in the upper wall 42, of the extension 3S. 1n these views I have shown the valve arranged for vertical automatic movement on the stem by means of a vertical extension 4T, on the valve 41, having an elongated slot 48, therein to receive a pin 49, which is secured to the stem 45, and extended through the slot 4S, of the extension 47. The above construetion is for preventing the overflowing ot the vessel. i
Frein the foregoing description it mav be seen that the valve w1ll actuate independent of the movements of the stem, but l do not want to confine myself to the ,speeilir com struction for it is obvious that the .stem li. may be rigidly secured to the valve 41. and be subject to automatic movement with the valve and by reason of a iluctuating pressure of water in a vessel; and the relative pressure actuation may be predetermined liv means oiE a fixed weight of the valve or di' the valve and stem combined. or it may la predetermined b v means shown in the modification, (see Fig. 7,) in which the valve 41, is seated for downward movement, in the lower wall of the extension 3S, in the valve casing 2, and having a compress spring 54, supported in the opening 43, of said casing and vertically extended into the tube 44, and encircling the stem 45. Said stem is provided with a pin which rests on the spring 54, the tension of said spring mav be arranged to actuate at a predetermined pressure on the valve. For securing the upper portions of stems 11, in a fixed position relative to the tube 44, (see Fig. 2,). A tie 'brace 50, is provided which may be horizontally adjustable and having at its outer ends a loose connection 51, with the stems 11, and a rigid connection 52, with the tube 44, which connection is formed of a circular band having a set screw 53, securing said band to the tube.
From the drawings and foregoing description the construction and functions of the device is apparent. It is also apparent that this invention is susceptible of other modiflcations and variations in its construction not shown or described, without material departure from ,the spirit and principles of the invention, and for this reason I do not I ture faute wish to confine myself to the exact construction shown and described in practically carrying 'out ithe novel features of the invention.
Its operation is as follows, to supply the vessel 25 with water vopen supply valves 10 when a predetermined quantity of water is secured in the vessel, the valve 41 in the waste valve casing2 will automatically move by means of abnormal pressure of water and thereby the flow from the supplies will be turned directly through the discharge aperture 14 into the drain 15 and thereby preventing the water from overtiowing the vessel. To discharge all the water from the vessel 25, open the valve 41 in the waste valve casing 2 by means of the manual operating knob 46 and stem 45 and all the water in the vessel will return to the waste valve casing and pass through the discharge aperture 14 into the drain.
For the purpose of spray and for lling portable vessels such as pails, slop jars, water pitchers and the like, secure the stand pipe 2f) in position over the waste aperture 24 in the vessel 25. In this position thc water from the supplies will be directed into said stand pipe and b v opening the valve 30 water may be drawn from the nozzle 3l for the purposes above mentioned.
Havingr thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is- 1. .1 valve of the character described, consistiircr of a verticall)1 disposed oblong integral casing having means in its side wall about midway between its ends, communieating with a horizontally disposed conduit, said conduit communicating with the interior of a vessel, means in the side wall of said casing about midway between its ends communicating with Water supply, and means in its bottom wall, communicating with a drain pipe, a valve seated within and near the center of said casing, and having one of its sides for contact with water pressure for automatic reciprocating movement thereby, a vertically disposed stem, having manually operative means thereon and extended through the top wall of said casing for slidable movement therein and connected with said valve and mounted for automatic vertical movement of said stern and valve.

A mechanism of the character described, consisting of a casing communicating with water supply and with a drain pipe, a valve seated in the casing, a stem having manually operative means thereon extended into the casing and secured to said valve, a vessel having a Waste opening in its bottom, a stand pipe within said vessel communicating with said Waste opening and extended above the same, a horizontally disposed conduit communicating with said casing and with said waste aperture and stand pipe.
7. A mechanism of the character described consisting of a casing communicating with Water supply and with a drain pipe, a vessel havin an aperture in its lower portion, a conduit communicating at one of its ends with the vessel through said aperture and at its other end with said casing, a. stand pipe having an apertuied base plate on its lower part detachably secured to the vessel around and over the aperture therein, a valve seated in the casing, a stem having manually operated means thereon and extended in the said casing` and connected to said valve for the purpose of actuating the same.
