Description

H. B. WALTER. BUCKET 0R PAH.. APPucATloN FILED Nov. is, |914..
Patented July 10, 1917'.
LQBS,
WLM/Woon HARRISON B. WALTER, OF DANVILLE, ILLINOIS.
BUCKET OR FAIL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jury io, miv.
Application filed November 18, 1914. Serial No. 872,815.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HARnisoN B. IVALTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckets or APails, of which the following is a specification.
rIhis invention relates to an improvement in buckets or pails constructed of paper, fiber board and the like, and the object is to provide removable ends made of the same material, which can be readily applied to the body of the receptacle.
The invention relates to still other novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective with portions of the vessel broken away to better disclose its construction;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of a modified form;
Fig. 4, is a detail fragmentary perspective view, partly in section, showing more clearly the recess in my preferred form.
A, represents the body of the receptacle, which is preferably made in two sections. The sections overlap at their edges, and are fastened together, preferably by means of staples 2, 2. A rim or band 3 is located f within the receptacle at the bottom edge thereof.
Staples 4, 4 are provided for fastening the rim in position. A removable bottom 5 is received upon the rim, and has frictional engagement with the wall of the receptacle, which is preferably tapered, so that the bottom will have a tight fit when forced into the receptacle, thereby relieving some of the strain of supporting the bottom from the rim 3.
The cover or lid is preferably constructed of two disks 6 and 7, the lower disk 6 being of less diameter than the upper disk. Interposed between the two disks are bars 8, 8 which enter recesses or notches 9 formed in the wall of the receptacle. The disks are connected to the bars by means of staples l0 for holding the bars in place and maintaining the disks upon the bars. The lower disk G is adapted to be inserted within the receptacle and to engage the inner wall thereof, and the upper disk projects to the ends of the bars 8, so that it will rest upon the upper edge of the receptacle, and thereby prevent any possibility of moisture, snow, or any foreign matter from entering the receptacle or upon the lower member G. With the bars arranged in this manner several receptacles can be stacked one upon the other without danger of crushing in the heads or covers.
Ears 11, l1 are fastened to the receptacle through which a handle or bail may be fas tened for carrying the receptacle.
In the structure shown in Fig. 3, the bars 8 cross each other at their centers, and are fastened to the wall of the receptacle by means of nails 12. Seals 13 are pasted upon the receptacle over the nail heads, so that the nails cannot be withdrawn without removing the seals, and thereby disclosing to the purchaser that the goods have been tampered with.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a receptacle is provided which can be made of cardboard and the like with a removable bottom of like material, which is supported therein by friction and upon a rim located at the bottom of the receptacle, the cover or top which closes the other end of the receptacle being made in two pieces, so that the lower sectional disk thereof will have frictional engagement with the walls of the receptacle, and the upper disk will engage the upper edge of the receptacle, whereby the cover will be fitted to the receptacle, tightly and snugly, so that there will be no danger of any foreign matter entering the receptacle.
I claim l. In a receptacle, the combination with a tapering body, of a bottom received in said body, a cover consisting of two disks of different diameters, bars between said disks for spacing and holding the same, the disk of smaller diameter being. ,received within the body and having a frictional engagement with the tapering walls of said body, the upper disk being adapted to rest upon the upper edge of said tapering body, driven means passing through said body into said bars, and means for sealing said driven means.
2. A cover or lid for a receptacle comprising tWo disks of diferent size, and bars in- 5 terposed between, brought to the outer edges of, and secured to said disks, whereby their ends may be utilized as means for fastening the cover to the receptacle when the smaller Copies of this patent may be obtained for `ve cents each, by addressin rests upon its edge. 10
In testimony whereof I aix my signature,
in the presence of two witnesses.
