MANICURING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PEDER M. KNUDSEN, a subject of the King of Norway, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manicuring Devices, of which the following is a full, .glear, and exact specification.

This invention relates to manicuring devices, and has for its object to provide an adjustable holder for the finger and manicuring tools whereby it will be possible to manicure the finger-nail without danger of hurting the flesh. Another object is to simplify the construction of the device so that it will be inexpensive to manufacture, and may be sold at a moderate price. A further object is to provide a device of the kind referred to which is capable of holding various manicuring tools. Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

The invention will be first hereinafter described in connection with the accompanying drawings which constitute part of this specification, and then more specifically defined in the claims at the end of the description.

The device comprises essentially a finger holding portion 1 and a tool holding portion 2 adjustable longitudinally with respect to each other. The portion 1 is preferably made from a blank of sheet metal formed as illustrated in Fig. 6 with a pair of opposite projections 3 at one end, a pair of slightly shorter opposite projections 4 near 5 is a section on the line VV of Specification of Letters Patent.

the middle, and a pair of much smaller projections 5 at the other end. This blank is rolled into the form illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 so that the projections 3 and 4 form resilient clips for holding a finger in the channeled base of said portion 1 of the device. The projections 5 are bent inwardly and downwardly, as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, for retaining the adjacent end portions of the part 2 as will be readily understood.

The portion 2 of the device is also preferably made from a blank of sheet metal formed as illustrated in Fig. 7 with opposite projections 6 near one end. This blank is also rolled into the form illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 4L and 5, and the projections 6 are overlapped and secured together by bolt 8. This bolt also serves to swivel a spring clip 7 to the top of the ring formed by the projections 6. The clip 7 is adapted to hold an orange stick 10 or other manicuring tools. As already intimated, the base portion of the part 2 is fitted in the channeled base of the part 1 and retained therein by the turned projections 5 which clamp said base portion of the part 2 with sufiicient force to h old the same against accidental movement when adjusted at any desired position. At the same time, the part 2 may be moved inward or outward with respect to the part 1 by exerting sufficient force to overcome the pressure of the projections 5 upon the base portion of the part 2. It will thus be seen that the part 2 may be readily adjusted longitudinally with respect to the part 1 in order to bring the end of the orange stick 10 or other tool mounted in the clip 7 into proper position relative to the finger-nail after the finger has been inserted below the clips 3 and at of said part 1. The clip 7 is preferably provided with diverging lips 9 between which the orange stick or other tool may be forced in entering the clip.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. In a manicuring device, the combination with a finger holding part, of a tool holding part thereon, and a spring clip mounted and adapted to hold a tool.

2. In a manicuring device, the combination with a finger holding part, of a tool holding part adjustable thereon, and a spring clip swiveled on the tool holding part and adapted to hold the tool.
