HANGER.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ANDREW L. SLoAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Passaic, in the county of Passaic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hangers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in hangers, of the type adapted to suspend wall maps, charts, drawings and similar thin fiat sheet objects in a secure and neat manner.

The principal objects are to provide means whereby such articles may be displayed eX- peditiously, held interchangeably and rolled or unrolled without affecting the supports.

Other objects are the provision of simple, practical and durable support means, inexpensive to make, easy to operate and pleasing in appearance.

These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of the apparatus ready for use.

In the preferred embodiment of the apparatus, a backing plate in the form of a rectangular strip 10 is used, the same being preferably made of Wood and provided with loops or eyes 11 by which the plate may be attached to a wall or other convenient vertical support. I

To this plate is rigidly secured brackets 14 having frontal arms 15 drilled to receive tubular rails 16, several of which may be used, the rails being arranged in the same horizontal plane, parallel to each other.

end and provided with knobs 20 by which the rods may be drawn out when it is desired to extend the length of the rails beyond the ordinary, or pushed into the tubes, in which position the knobs form an ornamental finish for the rail ends.

In simpler forms the plate 10 may be dispensed with and the brackets carrying the rails attached permanently to the wall, or, in place of the brackets, other equivalent supports for the rails may be employed.

In Fig. 2 a map is shown having a common form of molding 22 attached at its upper edge, upon which it may berolled, the same being removably engaged by a spring clamp having oppositely disposed curved arms 25, between which the molding 22 or tube 23, as shown in Fig. 3, may be sprung or entered from the end of the loop formed by the arms.

The lower ends of each arm are each turned outward forming reentrant hooks 26 readily engageable with perforated lugs as indicated at 24., and which are commonly provided with small maps and the like as shown in Fig. 4;.

In Fig. 5 the curved spring arms 25 are seen to be brought closely together at their upper ends, the combined members forming a hook 27 adapted to engage over the tubes or rods of the support rails, while in Fig. 6 a'looped eye or ring 28 is formed, the same being normally retained on the rails; in either case the hangers are readily adjustable lengthwise on the rails to any desired point and afford efl'icient means for supporting articles of the map class.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a number of such articles may be displayed at one time, the outermost being removed or released after use so as to display those in the rear, and finally it will be evident that the supporting devices do not in any way interfere with or obscure the surface of the displayed articles, which may be rolled and otherwise operated in the usual manner.

Having thus described my invention, its application and use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A two pronged support hook comprising asingle piece of spring Wire, the central upper portion of which is formed into an open loop adapted to be suspended by engagement with a rail, an open ring eXtending from said loop, said open ring being adapted to resiliently engage and support an article passed therethrough and reentrantly turned, outwardly curved, open hooks formed at the adjacent ends of said ring, each of said hooks being engageable 10 With articles to be supported, all of said elements being disposed in the same plane.
