Description

L. F. GOLD.
DISPLAY BOX. APPLICATION FILED 05c. 12; I916.
I -Pateni zed June 19 51 nuewtoz 7m FL;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEO F. GOLD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO INTERNATIONAL FOLDING PAPER BOX OF YORK, N. Y., A-'CORPORATION OF NEW YORK DISPLAY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 12, 1916. Serial No. 136,520.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known'that I, Lno F. GOLD a citizen of the United states, anda resident of the city, county, and State of New York,
have invented a certain new and useful- Improvement in Display-Boxes,' of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes or receptacles for containing and displaying small ar ticles of merchandise such as jewelry,- hose supporters, orany other articles of like character. Heretofore when articles of this kind have beenpacked in boxes, the articles were generally mounted upon or secured to a card, which was placed within a box, the box having an opening in its front face through which the article or articles secured to the card couldbe seen. The disadvantages of such a construction and manner of packing articles of merchandise are readily apparent.
The object of this invention is to provide a box of this general character wherein the card, upo hich the article of merchandise is secured, is formed integral with the box, or in other words, the merchandise holding card and the box are formed from a single blank, the blank being folded in such a manner to form the box and the merchandise holding card within it, the box being fitted and held together without the use of 'an bled,
adhesive on any other like fastening means. 'With this object in view I have devised the arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, and more particularly pointed out in the clalms appended hereto. or a more particular description of my invention, reference is to be had to,the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1, is a face view of the blank from WhlCll my improved display box is formed,
Fig. 2, is a plan view of the box assem- Fig. 3, is a sectional view on the line 3+3 of Flg. 2, looln'ng in the direction of the arrows, 4
Fig. 4, is a sectional view ,onthe line 4-4 of F g. 5, looking in the direction of the arrows, and,
' Fig. 5, is a sectional viewon the 5- 5 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows. Throughout the various views of the 4 is-held flat, and
the line 5 in assembling the device and thus forms the portions 3 and 4.- The portion 4 forms the merchandise holding flap and 3 forms the rear face. or bottom of the box.
The. body portion 1 is provided with laterally extending side flaps '6, which, when folded on the lines ,7 are divided into the locking tongues 9 and two sides 8' of the box The two additional flaps of the box are formed by folding the blank on the lines 10, 11, 12 and 13 thus forming the, sides 14. An additional locking flap 15 is formed on ,the lower end of the blank and projecting tabs-17 extend'outwardly at each corner of the portion 1.
To assemble the device, the article or artiroles of merchandise are secured, in any desired manner, to the portion 4 of the flap 2 Patented June 19, 1917.
and said flap is folded upon the line 5 so that the portion 4 rests on' top of the part 3 with the articles of merchandise uppermost. The flap 2 is then folded on the lines 10 and 11. The flap 15 is folded on the lines ,12 and '13 so that its tongue 15 rests ontop of the portion 4 and the tabs 17 are folded on the lines 19 so that they extend vertically between the portions 1 and 4 as shown in ,Figs. '3 and 5. The flaps 6 are then folded on-the lines 7 and 20 and the tongues 9 are inserted betweenithe portions 3 and 4 whereby the box is held together. 5 A lug 18 is formed on the free end of the flap 2 and this lug'bears against oneof the sides of the box, as shown in Fig. 3 so that the portion I the tabs 17 at that end of the box extend outwardly at a slight angle as shown in Fig. 4 and alsohold the portion "4 in a flat condition. Recesses .21 are formed in the edges of the portion 3 so that the locking tongues 9 may be readily grasped when it is desired to disassemble the box and remove the articles contained within the same.
An aperture 16, of any desired configuration is formed in the front face of the box whereby the articles of merchandise can be seen therethrough. Of course, if desired, this aperture may be omitted.
It will be obvious that the general contour of the blank may be altered in many ways to form variously shaped boxes Without departing from the spirit of my invention, so 1 do not limit myself to the precise form shown in the drawings, but believe that my invention is broad enough to cover all structures coming Within the scope of the annexed claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the type described for containing merchandise, including a body portion having extending laterally therefrom an elongated flap, Which body portion forms the front or face, and which elongated lateral' flap is foldablealong a given line, the resultant folds forming the merchandise holding flap and the bottom respectively,
said body portion being additionally folded, the resultant flaps forming the sides, said body portion also being formed with pro jeeting tabs at each corner, foldable to engage edgewise said merchandise holding flap.
2., A device of the type described for containing merchandise, including a body portion having extending laterally therefrom an elongated fiap Which body portion forms the front or face and which elongated lateral flap is foldable along a given line, the resultant folds forming the merchandise holding flap and the bottom, respectively, said body portion being additionally folded, the resultant flaps forming the sides, said body portion also being formed with projecting tabs at each corner, one of said side forming flaps being provided with a locking flap having a tongue resting upon said merchandise holding flap and said corner projecting tabs being foldable to engage said merchandise holding flap edgewise.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 6th day of December, 1916.
