My invention relates to a device to be ap-l plied inside thecrown of a hat of the creased or soft-crown type, for the purpose of retaining the crease therein.
The object of the invention is to provid sucha device which will be as light as pos# sible and inexpensive to manufacture and easy to apply,but which will have the requisite amount of strength to properly retain the crease in the hat crown; and, moreover, to provide means for retaining the device in position and prevent 'the same from falling ,out of place. ture is of very great advantage, for the reason that, as the hat is handled, the crown receives considerable bending and working,

The outer edges of the device are ontwardlyfiared, as shownat 6, to form a narrow flange. This flange adds sti fiiness to the device, by resisting bending and buckling strains and also prevents chai-ing of the cloth or other material of th'e hat at the edges of the clamp, particularly at the outer folds 2 of the crease, where 'said cloth or material lies against the longside edges 6 of the clamp.
